W600 Sporting Life Cabinets - back-stamp

1 Attachment(s)
I just finished re-scanning a whole bunch of my cards, including my W600's, and noticed that my Mordecai Brown has an interesting back-stamp (see close-up scan below).

Interestingly, three of mine (E. Collins, C. Bender, and E. Walsh) have hand-written notations in pen at the top showing when the player was elected to the HOF and the years they were alive. I bought them all separately, but obviously they were all owned by the same person at one point. I wonder how many others are out there...

But, back to my observation. Does anyone else have this back-stamp on their W600 cabinets??

The stamp is fairly common.

Would like to see the writing, have a hunch who probably wrote it, can you post?

Sure - I'll post later today when I'm back at my computer.

I looked through the threads on here and didn't see anything about the back-stamp. I had assumed they were all blank-backed.

About 1/3 the ones I had had that back stamp. Also had some with a back stamp of a previous owner noting something about a train depot or something in Indiana I believe.....Scott May have some of those in his collection.....

W600 back writing

Here's the writing on the back of several of my W600's that I mentioned in my OP. Anyone else have similar ones or know who wrote it/ owned them?
I have at least three w/ similar writing on the back.

Sorry for the large scan...

Not sure on the writing, not whom I thought it might be. As Tom stated there is a News Depot stamp also found, which was a reseller of "Sporting Life", these are also not that rare. To my mind, neither stamp brings any premium to the W600's, I have never seen any extra action because of them.

Many Sporting Life Cabinets that were distributed in the latter part of the run of this issue, 1909 through 1911, have that purple back-stamp. They are common and bring no premium.
