I have owned a lot of types but never owned a D351 or D355.

Brian Van Horn 12-07-2013 08:08 PM

Never had a D304 or E107.

MMarvelli 12-07-2013 08:13 PM

All I want for Xmas is an E 221...have never seen one available.

z28jd 12-07-2013 08:22 PM

I've wanted a T209 B&W for awhile, but I've never picked one up. Not sure why really

I have only seen 3-4 for public sale in my 17 yrs in the hobby. One of them sold 3 times and I am counting it once....

barrysloate 12-08-2013 04:35 AM

With your permission, may I slightly change the topic:

In my nearly thirty years in the hobby, I have either owned or had consigned to me a T206 Wagner, a U.S. Caramel Lindstrom, a 1914 Baltimore News Ruth, about four T206 Planks, a couple of Magies, a 1952 Topps Mantle, and countless other rarities....but never once did I own or even handle a 1933 Goudey Lajoie.

That one will be my white whale.:(

ullmandds 12-08-2013 06:19 AM

barry...that's not changing the subject at all!!!! My whole point is that some cards...some tough...some not...for some reason have eluded us/me...for whatever reason. it's funny!

Exhibitman 12-08-2013 07:06 AM

At this point I'd settle for a damned PC Back Exhibit Todt silhouette version...

Prince Hal 12-08-2013 07:48 PM

Its an E107 Yankee for me. Throw in a Cracker Jack Frank Chance too.

I think I have lost 3 of them to Leon alone. I can count a few more, but not many. If you find a stash, I will be happy to take your dupes.

Never owned a Western Playground catcher

For me the rarest card I'd go after and have never owned would be a Western Playground catcher card such as a Claude Berry Western Playground.

Darby chocolate complete box;)

h2oya311 02-18-2014 08:38 AM

I've looked, but shockingly I haven't ever seen an 1898-99 National Copper Plate of any of the guys I'm looking for (Wagner, J. Collins, B. Wallace, Flick, or Willis). Yes, I've seen scans online, but that doesn't count!!

phlflyer1 02-18-2014 03:01 PM

Several years back I had a deal lined up for an N173 cabinet of either a Phillies or A's player (can't remember which) for my "Philly" type card collection. It would have been the first N173 that I owned.

Sadly, the seller backed out of the transaction and I am still looking for one to this day.

T205 GB 02-18-2014 04:13 PM

...a card I couldn't sell:D

GregMitch34 02-18-2014 05:42 PM

A Gypsy Queen would be nice

Leon 02-18-2014 06:31 PM

E221s are one of my favorite type cards. And if I am not mistaking you know where at least one of mine came from? I can't help myself when I see them. I feel like a kid in a candy store!! I just wish they were like $5 or something....

For me definitely E221 - Leon, I'd love one of those Los Angeles examples! Also AWH Caramels.

Hey Leon, you really should set a better example, especially for the newbie collectors of vintage cards who have joined Net 54, and STOP HOARDING very scarce type cards!! :p
Best,
Val

well

NS not as tough for these types but for my BB types - four base hits, kalamazoo bats, ju ju drum container............

ethicsprof 02-19-2014 10:08 AM

types

the good news: I do have a D304 (Charles Herzog).
the not so good news: I don't have a Fan card---and never will.
As I thought about this I remembered how hard it was for me to find
the R card Knot Hole League, even though they don't cost much.
When I finally found it, I bought all the fellow had.
all the best,
barry

phlflyer1 02-19-2014 10:11 AM

Leon,

Please stop posting in this thread!

Between the Red Crofts Candy and now the Virginia Extra, everytime you post I have to keep adding to the list of type cards that I need for my "Philly" type card collection.

Thank goodness the E221s don't fit the parameters of my collection so I can ignore those beauties :D

drcy 02-19-2014 11:10 AM

I'm a photo historian and was a writer/researcher for the standard academic reference Encyclopedia of Nineteenth Century Photography, published out of London, and a few days ago a guy emailed me images of a CDV sized 1800s cloth photo (non sport, studio portrait of a guy)-- basically a tintype but on cloth instead of metal. He asked me about it as he could find no information on cloth photos. He called it his 'mystery photo.' I said I knew cloth tintypes were known to exist, but they are so rare I'd never even seen an image of one before his emails. He found it in in a 1800s CDV collection.

In his first email, he just described in it words as he thought it would be impolite to email images without asking first. I half expected from the words the images would show a commercial lithograph on silk, ala the baseball tobacco silk premiums, but it turned out to be a real photograph.

He just put it up on eBay if anyone's interested, and I can provide the link if asked. I don't spam auctions and am not a bidder or know the seller other than is emails, but it fit this thread. I can testify that its an ultra rare photo type, a type most people haven't even heard of before.

For historical background, it was technically possible to make tintypes on cloth, leather and wood, but it was almost never done. Just as it was technically possible for Topps to have printed cards on bricks.

Leon, I believe once you acquire four examples of a type card, you become a set collector. :p

ValKehl 02-19-2014 12:38 PM

Hey Daryl, please don't encourage Leon to become a set collector, especially of a set like the T216 VEs, for I fear that he will become even more of a HOARDER, much to the chagrin of type collectors, like me! :D

Leon, per Val's request, please cease all set collecting immediately. :D

I never had a T215 Pirate...always wanted one...I should have pulled the trigger for $1500 back in 95'...but that'd been crazy back then...for me!

I've also always wanted a t214 Victory...I also could have bought one of many at the 95 n'atl.:(

Any Cincinnati player from E107 or W600.

Am lucky to have a nice variety of type cards - a K Bat here, a Western Playground there, couple of N173s, a Big Eater, you name it - but have never been able to land a Boston Garter Sepia. Been the penultimate bridesmaid on two or three different occasions. Really neat cards.

The Sepia Garters seem to be as scarce as the other ones....

I am sure glad Leon is here to make you all jealous, otherwise this thread would be boring with just a bunch of letter/number combinations. It is nice to have a picture to go with the set numbers, I don't always remember which is which.

They aren't braggarts like I am. :o For those counting, the Boston Garters are ACC# 813 I use a -1,-2,-3 to separate the different series. That Sepia is -3 and here is -1 Rucker and -2 Herzog (not to size)

Kawika 02-24-2014 02:54 PM

Beauties, Leon. Brag away. If you're gonna get flak for show'n'tell then what's the point of Net54 in the first place?

Great cards Leon, as usual :)

I think it's interesting that they used that^^ image of Jennings on the Tango Eggs Jennings card (which I think I just saw recently in the pick up thread).

I've only owned (as far as pre-war goes) a total of 8 different type cards, so my list for "but never a...." would be waaay to long :o

Great cards everyone, always a pleasure to see these works of art!!

Sincerely, Clayton
