1931 W502 vs 1931 W-UNC

Any difference between these two sets -- 1931 W502 vs. 1931 W-UNC? I believe the W-UNC are blank backed and the W502s have writing on back (at least according to Brad's Lefty Grove website). Any other differences like numbering or card stock?

I see both listed in the SGC population reports.

Not sure about the answer to your question, Derek but a Bill Dickey RC in this set.....

The first 20 cards in the 1931 set are different.

Sorry. Let me clarify. I know there is a difference b/w 1928 and 1931 W502 sets. But I have on my checklist a Bill Dickey W502 card #13 AND a Bill Dickey W-UNC #13.

I believe SGC has graded one of each. My question is: is there a difference b/w the two (if they are, in fact, different sets)? Perhaps the type card collectors can chime in.

The 2011 Standard Catalog lists the 1931 W-UNC Strip cards and the 1931 W502 Strip cards separately. At the bottom of their description for the 1931 W-UNC set, they say, "This issue's checklist is identical to the 1931 W502, the only difference being these cards have blank backs."

Because they are cataloged (and graded professionally) as different sets, I have always considered them different cards. I can tell them apart only based on the contents of the back of the card.

Here is my 1931 W-UNC Strip card of Grove. (Since the back of the card is blank, I did not scan it.)

Here are my 1931 W502 cards of Grove. I am still looking for a few of the other backs.....

mystery solved...

Thanks Brad. Shockingly, your website was the only place where I could piece this together doing a google search.

I have a very old Standard Catalog (2003) and wasn't sure if there was any new information. I also have a very old type-card list that I had downloaded from the internet and the 1931 W502 wasn't listed (shockingly), so I was unsure whether they were one and the same.

Appreciate the quick response.
