2013 Hall of Fame "Special" Induction 7/28...any Net54 members attending?

3 Attachment(s)
In addition to Hank O’Day, Jacob Ruppert and Deacon White, this year's HOF Induction ceremony will honor 12 old timer electees who never had an official induction. The list includes:

Lou Gehrig
Rogers Hornsby

and the entire Class of 1945:
Roger Bresnahan
Dan Brouthers
Fred Clarke
Jimmy Collins
Ed Delahanty
Hugh Duffy
Hughie Jennings
King Kelly
Jim O’Rourke
Wilbert Robinson

It's pretty neat that so many old timers will have an official induction ceremony this weekend. Each old timer will be inducted by one of the Hall of Famers in attendance. The HOF website states that "The 1:30pm Ceremony will be televised live on MLB Network, broadcast nationally on Sirius XM Radio and will be available via a Web cast at www.baseballhall.org."

I'll be there...will any other Net54 members be attending this weekend?

In honor of these old timers, let's make a thread of the cards of these players.

I'll be there and am looking forward to it. Haven't been since 2004 and am happy with the way they've organized it this year (with no living guys going in).

I plan on being there. Great lineup.

Nice way to generate some additional interest with no living members being inducted this year.

Anyone wanna bet on how many programs from the ceremony signed by at least one of the inductees make it onto Ebay this week?

Drew6 07-22-2013 07:32 PM

I'll be there, haven't missed one since 1988. Ted Z sets up at the VFW show as well as my buddy George and several others. Should be a nice time as always - small crowd though is sure to lead to good opportunities to actually have lengthy conversations with the Hall of Famers who will be back in the village. I would recommend it to all as even in down years, it is still cool to visit the museum, chat with other fans/collectors, look at cards, memorabilia, etc... Adam, I hope you are wrong, but do suspect you may be right.

Anyone know the story why there wasn't an induction ceremony for these players? I understand that many of them may have been deceased at their time of induction, but how about Hornsby? I assume he was still around.

Guessing it must have been war related

Despite great interest, I'll be stuck watching on TV. Good to see two of the "Big Four" honored.

GaryPassamonte 07-27-2013 03:39 AM

And the second member of the original "Big Four", Joe. Barnes and McVey to go.

Anybody can tell me what station this is being broadcast on, American station OK but better yet if Canadian? Will it be shown live on the internet? TIA

Jay Wolt 07-28-2013 11:11 AM

MLB Network will be showing the inductions.
Not sure if that reaches Canada

Kawika 07-28-2013 11:50 AM

Thanks, Jay, for the info. Don't have MLB in my cable TV package. I have MLB Premium on the internet and thought it would be live streamed. If it is I can't find it. Might be able to catch it on one of the podcasts later.

Pilgrammage

I made a visit to the HOF in early July when I was in NY to check out the new Yankee Stadium. Here are a few shots I took of their PW card display and of former board member Hal Lewis' Reccius Cigar Wagner:

Did anyone hear Bud Selig read off the Deacon White and Hank O'Day plaques? No one clued him in on the fact PL stood for Player's League, not Pacific League. At least he gave those two the ole college effort, for the National Association teams on White's plaque, he paused on the first, then skipped over them.

I was very surprised at the lack of knowledge on Selig's part. He seemed to struggle with anything that differed from modern day NL & AL teams. He really came across as clueless to those that follow baseball history. If you are going to honor the players of years past, you should at least understand what teams and leagues they played. I would give Selig a flunking grade for his performance today. Even if he is devoting 100% of his time in the past several months to PEDs, a poor job today.

On the other hand, I thought all three families did a good job on behalf of the new inductees.
