e107 Wagner vs e107 Matty

Now the Matty is up in the current auction. It seems like the general consensus on here is that the Wagner went for maybe a little lower than expected, but still about right. The e107 common prices were low, probably due to the influx of inventory hitting the market.

Predictions for the Matty?

It's a beautiful card, no doubt about that.

E107 Matty

I still think the E107 Wagner SGC 50 went cheap. I understand that $125K is a lot of $$$, but I thought that card was going to go at least $175K. I wouldn't have been surprised if it went over $200K.

In my opinion, the Matty card should go for around $165K. It wouldn't surprise me if it went over $200K as well, because I really believe it's worth that much.

The Wagner & Matty E107's each have less than 10 examples known.

E107's seem to have a very thin collector base. If the "whales" don't need the card, who know where it will end up. Another factor is that there are a lot of E107's hitting the market in a short time frame.

I'll let the market decide, but these are just my opinions.

I'm going with the Matty taking down the Wagner by a hair.

Agreed and with other opinion above. It seems the E107 prices low by a bit, as many hitting at one time.

terjung 05-15-2013 07:07 AM

Completely agree with Tony's response above.

One of the best sets out there. The 1903 E107 Wagner is one of the most undervalued cards out there, IMO. I thought it went downright cheap!
With only 4 graded and less than 10 known, it is drastically more scarce than the T206 and is 6 years earlier. No debate as to whether it constitutes a "card" either.

The E107 Wagner and E107 Matty should be similarly valued.

Yep. It's definitely going to be interesting to see how it goes.

I think the Matty may edge out the Wags...2 of the all-time greatest cards hands down.

Looks like you may be right. Price on the Matty has matched that of the Wags, and a couple more days remain in the auction...

oldjudge 05-27-2013 08:46 AM

Wagner's first actual card vs Matty's first actual card--no contest. The Matty should go for a lot less. Whether it will or not depends on a lot of factors, most importantly who is bidding.

E107 Matty

Exact same ending price as the Wagner - $125K with bp. Great deal for the buyer in my opinion. I have a funny feeling that the same person may have won both cards. Just a hunch.

Seems a little low but the air is thin for this type of card at this level.

I have a rental property in Charlotte, NC(city lot) and was wondering today if I'd rather have the E107 Wags and Matty in a safe deposit box or the property. I think the cards would be less headache but the property is more of a secure long term investment. My wife would think I've lost my mind if I sold the house and bought the cards. I should do it!

Wonder how disappointed Sullivan is with these results?

Great question. He's on target for the set to sell for significantly less than a million.

I know that I was surprised about how low the Wagner went. With that, I'm not surprised that the Matty matched it. The market is pretty thin for 6 figure cards. I suspect that it was the same underbidder in both and that he (or she) didn't want to go more than $100k + vig. Who knows how much the winner(s) were actually willing to pay for those two cards. It is a good lesson in the fact that the auction market determines an item's value to be one increment above what the second highest bidder is willing to spend.

As to Jay's comment about Wagner's first actual card vs. Matty's first actual card... I completely agree that it should be no contest with Wagner winning. (Not that I am biased in any way.) ;)

Both, but especially the Wagner, are undervalued in my opinion. With only 4 graded and conservatively less than 10 E107 Wagners out there, it should be much closer to the value of the (at least 60) T206 Wagners.

Mikehealer 05-30-2013 07:39 AM

The Wagner and Matty combined sold for considerably less than a T206 Doyle would/has. Now that just seems crazy.

Were the prices considered high or low on the e107's in last night's Legendary Auction ?

deadballfreaK 05-30-2013 03:31 PM

Anyone have an idea about how many E107 Planks there are in comparison?

sb1 05-30-2013 03:32 PM

quite a few more, probably 10-15 minimum, although most would be F-G

I think there are arround 10 plank on the market..

terjung 05-31-2013 09:17 AM

Well, nine E107 Planks have been graded. I suspect there are a few / several more that have not been graded. Scott's estimate of 10-15 minimum seems about right to me.

I strongly suspect that the Wagner and the Matty did not go to the same person. Both were steals, IMO.

deadballfreaK 05-31-2013 02:33 PM

I know of at least one ungraded. :)
