psa smr correct?

i was looking at the psa smr values and was wondering if they are close to the real value of the cards?

I check past auction prices for the card in question... Then I go from there!

Not. Even. Close.

For most issues at least.

their smr price guide values for boxing autographs is horrible in my opinion, not even close, i dont know where they got those values or if they are guessing, but many of the values are way off and i dont think they will fix them anytime soon.

i think the smr price guide needs some work.

It seems that their values for common cards are about right, but their values for stars/HOFers are not accurate.

A helpful site for card values can be http://www.vintagecardprices.com/. And a simple search through completed Ebay auctions can give you a better approximate value than PSA SMR.

Then again, you know the old adage; It's only worth as much as someone is willing to pay for it.

It's a good jumping off point, and seems to try to catch the middle of the big ebb and flow you see in prices, so I use it to start a conversation, but they certainly don't keep it up to date with every recent sale (that would be impossible)

The lower the grade the closer they are to accurate, but the high end stuff PSA 7+ tends to vary hugely, so the best they can do is make educated guesses

No, it is not.

I always seem to pay more for HOFers than the SMR price.

The folks at the PSA chat board often say the SMR prices are not accurate, and they are as big of PSA loyalists as there are.
