Cy Young collectors?

We talk a lot about Cobb collectors, Wajo collectors, Wagner collectors etc... but I don't see much about Cy Young collectors. Do any members collect Cy Young or do we just have cards because he is Cy Young, has the most wins ever and a famous award named after him, and even non-baseball people know the name? Not sure why SGC thought this was an E101, I classify as the least common denominator, E92 for this one.

Love that portly hurler. Old Cy's record will stand forever. He's got a terrific statue on the grounds of Northeastern/Huntington Avenue Grounds.

This is probably my second-most valuable autographed T206 card (behind only my WaJo). Even though the signature is light, it is still a beauty to me!

That trade card is unreal!

Jim, be careful with that E93. It's so sharp, you could cut yourself with that thing!

I picked up this little pennant about 10 years ago at a show. Any ideas about origin or worth? It is made of a silky-like material and measures about four and a half by seven.

Pretty amazing stuff so far. Haven't seen some of these before. JimB, your E93 is just a little bit nicer than mine.

Jaybird 06-06-2012 04:15 PM

I was waiting for these! what took you so long. Amazing PCs, Jeff. Thanks for showing them. You're just like Cy, no gambling, no drinking and definitely no women.

glchen 06-06-2012 04:25 PM

Quick question. Are the E92's and E98's the cards where Cy Young does not actually appear on the card, and instead it's Irv Young in the picture?

E98s yes, E92s probably but not for sure.

Jaybird 06-06-2012 06:27 PM

I thought we determined that the E92 was just a bad artist render of this image:

http://i1023.photobucket.com/albums/...7a4c_large.jpg

I don't own the card, so I'm not trying to trump it up but could be a reference.

I didn't remember us saying for sure it IS Cy on E92....but in looking more now(and probably my thought from before too) it does resemble him.....but on the E98s and E97s, definitely Irv....

Agree on Irv on the e98 and e97. I guess I was too strident in saying that it IS Cy on the E92. Just that I thought that was the consensus.

Of course, it's still up for debate. After all, this is a message board. ;)

I was told that the photo with the little girl was personally owned by Cy Young, and stamped with his signature as was common for much of his ephemera. I also bought a book, Jack London's The Sea-Wolf that was purportedly from his estate. The book was pretty old, but I carefully read it, and it was amazing! It was a great story, and just the possibility that Cy Young was reading the same book and maybe enjoying it just as much as I had made it even better!

asoriano 06-06-2012 08:26 PM

Very cool PC's, Jeff! I actually grew up in New Philadelphia, OH--visited Cy's resting place a few times when I was younger.

Just to prove that Leon's political card isn't the only one in existence. I've been sitting on this thing for years waiting to see if another would pop up. It figures Leon would find it.

paul 06-09-2012 05:20 PM

A question for Corey and Scott. Did the people at Just So add the "Cleveland" lettering to Young's jersey, or did the people at Sporting Life remove it?

Hoarder!! :) BTW, technically they are different versions as the printing at bottom is slightly different. Nice card....

The original photo with Cleveland would have been used for the Just-So. the lettering was obscured from it for the W600 cabinet.
