I need some help removing this fake Ruth

Anyone else have an ebay contact?

fake

Who says it's fake, they clearly state-

"You are bidding on an ORIGINAL 1915 Babe Ruth Sporting News Rookie Card":o

danmckee 04-23-2012 03:26 PM

oh dah! good point, I guess I should have read the description.

GasHouseGang 04-23-2012 03:37 PM

I reported him through ebay's system. Let's see if that works.

CobbSpikedMe 04-23-2012 03:39 PM

Andhe says God bless at the end, it must be good

GasHouseGang 04-23-2012 04:08 PM

Plus he must be a good guy because he says:

"I do not accept returns on most items due to mutiple scammers but, I will gladly refund an item that is damaged once the item is returned to me at the buyers expense. I have found this prevents being scammed by those who are dishonest."

Anyone that worried about scammers must be OK.

Republicaninmass 04-23-2012 04:40 PM

just reported as well

frankbmd 04-23-2012 04:41 PM

Not just a vintage card expert

He also has sold a Justin Bieber necklace and a pink bra from Victoria's Secret. His expertise is virtually without horizons.

DixieBaseball 04-23-2012 04:42 PM

...

I reported as well. Tick, tock ebay... tick tock.

By the way, this is my first experience with a neighborhood watch group (Ebay Pre-war watchdog group). All be it Barney Fife-ish, I wanted to do a solid.

Edwolf1963 04-23-2012 05:00 PM

Count me in...

I just sent a report as well.

ibuysportsephemera 04-23-2012 05:29 PM

Reported as well.

Jeff

yanksfan09 04-23-2012 05:40 PM

me too

Pup6913 04-23-2012 06:23 PM

Reprint reported. I loved this part....

This card is in mint condition. I did not have it graded due to experience with the grading companies in the past and my dissatisfaction. I am not willing to risk a card of this value. This is a great oppurtunity at an extremely rare piece of history.

If we all thought this way PSA would have to close their doors:D:D:D:eek::eek:

danmckee 04-23-2012 06:24 PM

You guys ROCK! Thanks for the help, I truly appreciate it. Dan.

Mdoe 04-23-2012 07:07 PM

OK, so somebody buy this piece of crap, damage it once you receive it and then send it back for a full refund. This way, he has to pay eBay fees and a fake card is taken off the market (or the guy has to relist it as a damaged card and can't ask for s much money).

I reported it as well. Let's see what happens!

Buythatcard 04-24-2012 06:22 AM

Just wondering if anyone tried contacting the seller first. Maybe he just didn't know it was a reprint.

If you did contact him and he refused to take it down, then I say go report him.

danmckee 04-24-2012 06:56 AM

I contacted him immediately, he stated "thanks for your opinion".

He is a scammer and his fake card has been shut down, thanks for the help everyone.

Damn! I am on a roll lately :)

Buythatcard 04-24-2012 07:01 AM

Good work.

Someone has to clean up eBay. I am glad that some people here are taking care of that.

danmckee 04-24-2012 07:08 AM

Thanks Howard! And thank you for being one of the good guys! Ebay needs more Howards and less Texascoin God Blessers.

****! I am on a roll lately :)

I got the "thanks for you opinion" also. How has the authenticity of a card become an opinion and not a fact?

I didn't bother responding because I saw that the auction was taken down.

Jay Wolt 04-24-2012 08:31 AM

Went to report it to eBay as well....but the auction is gone.
Good work guys.
Hopefully he won't re-list it tomorrow

I did the same and he thanked me for my opinion as well. Pleasant guy. Criminal, but a pleasant guy.

Card

Hey, just curious - not being familiar with this card/set, other than obvious red flags like not graded and the crap about distrust, what set it off in the scan as a fake/reprint?

This was discussed before, but here's a photo from the "Detecting Card Alterations and Reprints" link at the top of this page. Hope this helps.

danmckee 04-24-2012 12:35 PM

At the top of any Net54 page you can click on "detecting card alterations and reprints" Then click on M101

I tried reporting, by the time I got back to the auction it was sold.
Hopefully it doesn't stop ebay from sending the Feds after him and cancelling the sale for the sake of the buyer.

michael3322 04-26-2012 01:16 AM

Does anyone on the board have contacts at eBay? I think it would be helpful for us to understand how their reporting process works and how a seller who is reported for selling fake items can have his/her listing removed, and then be allowed to re-list the specious item.

It is mind-boggling and I'm sure a source of immense frustration for true collectors that these sellers are empowered to pollute the card industry with fake vintage cards.

Do you think eBay has some financial incentive to clean this up? After all, buyers who receive fake products can then use eBay resources to request a refund. This must cost them time/money in customer service. Or do you think it doesn't affect eBay's cash flow since many buyers unwittingly buy the fake cards but don't know that they've been scammed?

I would love your insights.

danmckee 04-26-2012 07:58 AM

Actually in the Stamps category and the vintage card categories ebay has behind the scenes police who read your reports. There are also a handful of experienced vintage collectors that help out.

Ebay is actually doing a decent job with this, hence this knucklehead has been removed.

But you must remember that they have to completely make sure they have their ducks in a row before they remove an auction or a member, or they could have legal issues I believe.

Thanks for everyone's help on this instance!

danmckee 04-26-2012 07:58 AM

When I stated "police" above, I meant people policing the categories, not actual law enforcement police.
