Can you figure out what's wrong with this holder?

Hoping someone can shed some light on this...

I don't think I've ever seen black spaces in the edge of the holder like that one has. Maybe in the 90's but not since.

I had a brief email exchange with him over the mysterious "Mint" PSA 8 grade assigned to the card. He's since ended the auction. He was very cordial and said he'd get in touch with PSA. He said the card was acquired as part of an estate purchase.

selling

Sounds like he was concerned when you emailed him. I know it's not uncommon, but shouldn't people know what they are selling before they list? Just a thought.

Something's definitely fishy...

It got me to looking at other '86 Jordan stuff...We've all seen auctions with completely unrelated and unnecessary information in the title, but I think I may have stumbled across one of the most irrelevantly titled cards I've ever seen on ebay...

Is it really necessary to mention that this card is from MJ's rookie card year? Maybe sellers should start mentioning Mantle in every '52 topps listing? Or maybe Aaron and Banks in every '54 topps listing? Just imagine the possibilities of a card from '57 topps?

1957 Topps Foster Castleman 237. BROOKS ROBINSON, FRANK ROBINON, DON DRYSDALE, BILL MAZEROSKI, BOBBY RICHARDSON, TONY KUBEK, ROCKY COLAVITO ROOKIE YEAR....

You may be right, but who lists an item on ebay for $.99 BIN with a best offer. Seems like a colossal waste of time.

I checkjed on the psa website and the # 09379426 is not in there data base. This is a fake label. Beware.

He did seem concerned and I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt following our exchange. No matter how suspicious, we can't be sure what he really knew, and he did do the right thing by ending it within minutes of the first email.

every PSA 8 I see on google images says "NM-MT"

edited to say I see Ian noticed this first....

it may be one of those Craigslist fakes often seen FS on Craigslist. I also dont see the PSA symbol in bottom corner, should show up when the scan is done with a dark background like that.

Great job on looking up the serial number. By chance, did anyone let the seller know that it is definitely in a fake holder?

I let him know it was "definitely" a fake flip before we actually knew it was definitely fake. I'll send him another mail as an FYI.

This stuff scares me going forward. If this card's original owner/creator had put a 9 (instead of an 8) on the label and used a valid PSA serial number - then what??? It looks VERY real to me otherwise....
