Memorabilia forum focus?

Hey Ya'll
I am sure Dan will have his own thoughts, and will have a large part in the final decision, but I figure taking a poll would be a good thing to gauge the interest level on different topics being included here. First of all I would like to get 4-10 good choices to vote on....once we have those then we can do a separate thread or add a poll to this one..This really is ya'lls forum as I don't collect much memorabilia, I am just trying to help. A few to start could be:

1. Pre-WWII Baseball only
2. Pre-WWII All Sports
3. Vintage Baseball only (up to a certain year, 1980?)
4. Vintage All sports (up to a certain year, 1980?)
5. ?
6. ?
7. ?
8. ?
9. ?
10. ?

thanks much....

I personally am mainly interested in Baseball, however, I think Vintage All sports up to a certain year (1980) is the way to go. I know there are people on here that are hardline pre-WWII, but hey, teams I've been collecting lately like the 60 pirates and 61 Yankees are over 50 years old...which is vintage to me :D

Vintage All Sports would be cool.

I enjoy seeing memorabilia from many different sports.

Of a more recent vintage...

I will likely be in the minority, but I tend to pick up game used stuff from the past 10-20 years...stuff that isn't necessarily expensive, but rather interesting. It would be kind of neat to share some of those finds with everyone. As an example, just replaced my desk chair in my home office with this...direct from the locker room of the 2010 World Series champs...

Chair belonged to and is signed by Roberto Kelly...

#4) Vintage all sports

This forum gets a decent number of new threads, but not enough that it should be made more focused. I think all-sports would add more new threads which would make it better. Nothing wrong with seeing a new thread about football or hockey.

In short, more new posts and topics on vintage sports in this thread, the better.

#4...vintage all sports..with leeway for some non-vintage as long as you are a regular contributor.

I think we should keep it strictly pre 1860 baseball only....just kidd'n...I vote for all vintage sports items...

Matt, the Giant's chair is dynamite!...for a modern piece

Dan is the source of all wisdom as far as I am concerned, so I will vote for his suggestion.

Besides, it's well documented that memorabilia collectors are the most emotionally stable and secure of all collectors and as such, appreciate sports memorabilia as both art and nostalgia...I'm just sayin!!!

As long as we can agree that there will be no Beanie Babies (anyone else remember THAT National?), I think it would be great to open the floodgates.

vintagesportflips 04-20-2011 08:41 PM

I vote vintage all-sports

If I remember correctly THAT National was in Chicago. I was looking to pick up a lobster beanie baby for my son. When I saw one I asked the seller the price. He responded it would cost me $2,000. I asked why so high and was told it was a special collector's edition version. I then went to another table (at THAT National an entire section of the floor was devoted to beanie babies) where I saw another lobster one. I asked the price and was told $11. Needless to say it was not a collector's edition, but it was a lobster beanie baby and it sure looked a lot like the one that was priced for $2,000. After buying it I remember walking away wondering if any people would be buying special collector edition beanie babies in the belief they would someday be a good investment.

Brings back a lot of memories, not just of beanie babies but also of pokemon cards. Remember THAT craze?!

Whenever I am on the memorabilia side I enjoy seeing other sports too. Must be something about memorabilia rather than cards that makes us more interested in stuff from other eras (even past WWII) and sports.
