Huggins and Scott March 2011 Auction

Huggins and Scott Auctions is a Maryland-based company that continues to set industry standards in many categories. Each new auction brings treasures and rarities to the market with the style and professionalism that consignors have grown to expect. The upcoming March 30-31, 2011 auction will offer more than 850 consigned lots of vintage and modern sports cards and memorabilia in a two-week auction with bidding beginning March 16th, and being conducted by phone and Internet via the company’s website, www.hugginsandscott.com.

The auction begins with a near complete 1909-11 T206 tobacco card set. The set includes the O’Hara variation, all four Ty Cobb’s and missing just five of the toughest variations. Following “The Monster” is the “Mount Rushmore” of autographed cards with George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt signatures on a 2008 Upper Deck insert card.

This auction includes an exemplary list of unique, rare and vintage baseball memorabilia highlighted by the second installment of the Richie Ashburn Collection. This section of the catalog includes Ashburn’s 1993 NL Championship ring given to him as half of the announcer team, the original Perez-Steele Hall of Fame postcard artwork that hung at the Hall of Fame during his induction and Ashburn’s game-worn 1948 rookie year cap.

A superb selection of autographed items is highlighted by a Babe Ruth single-signed baseball (PSA 6), a 1979 Thurman Munson single-signed baseball (likely his last autograph, ever!), a Willie Stargell game-worn and signed pillbox Pirates cap and a 1968 Chicago Bears team signed football with Halas, Piccolo and Sayers. All autographs have been examined and authenticated by either James Spence Authentications or Professional Sports Authenticators.

Other rare artifacts in this auction include a selection of rare to unique Willie Mays cards with the only known 1966 Topps Punch-outs, a 1958 Hires Root Beer with the tab, an uncut Briggs Meats panel and several other test issues, prototypes and Mays memorabilia. Game-used items include a 1989 Old-Timers Mickey Mantle Yankees worn jersey; a Joe Namath 1977 Los Angeles Rams jersey; game-used bats of H. Aaron, T. Williams, R. Ashburn, H. Killebrew and more; a very difficult Wayne Gretzky brushed aluminum 1989 stick; a Jerry Rice Raiders helmet and a Super Bowl worn Dallas Cowboys helmet. A tremendous collection has come from the bat boy from the 1964-1966 Baltimore Orioles and contains jerseys, photographs, signatures and bats from the 1966 World Champion Orioles.

As with most of Huggins and Scott auctions, they will have a large number of vintage cards from all sports, as well as an incredible collection of newer, modern insert/relic cards with complete autographed sets and a variety of other (1 of 1) cards and parallels.

A terrific selection of graded cards is highlighted by a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie PSA 7 (oc), 1953 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 8, 1955 Sandy Koufax rookie PSA 8, T206 Sherry Magie (error) PSA 3, T207 Louis Lowdermilk PSA 5 (mc) and a tremendous collection of high-grade 1923 Walter Mails card game with a Walter Johnson (SGC 96).
