PSA to SGC crossover question

I have one card in a PSA holder that Im considering crossing over into an SGC holder. SGC states that "the minimum grade for a crossover must be equal or less than the original grade. SGC will not accept crossover with a higher minimum grade" That's fine by me, I cant argue with the logic there at all. The kicker is that the PSA card is graded at 4.5, which I believe has no direct equivalent in SGC. Would SGC's position be that I can state my minimum grade at no higher than 50 (PSA 4)? I'd be delighted to let it transfer at a 60, but I'd really have to dwell on it a bit longer at a 50.

Thanks for the insights.

You should give them a call and see what they say. That might be the only way to get the answer you are looking for....regards

Will do. Thanks, Leon!

if sgc thinks it's worthy of a 60, they will do it...but they won't accept a M/G 60 when your card is a 4.5.

i've sent in high value cards (3k+) in a psa 3 and gai 3.5 holders...sgc bumped both to 50s so they have no bias at all. if you think it's a 60, then crack it out.

Not sure I agree with your information that SGC won't up-grade a card submitted for crossover.

This is from the SGC website's FAQ: http://www.sgccard.com/submission_FAQ.htm
Q.) Does SGC accept cards graded by another company to be crossed over?
A.) We do offer a crossover service that reviews cards graded by other grading companies. All crossovers must be submitted under the appropriate service level according to the value of the card. Crossovers may be submitted along with raw cards at any service level. Turnaround times on crossovers vary based on the service level chosen.

The procedure for submitting cards for crossover review is easy. Simply fill out an invoice for the appropriate service level desired, and list each card notating the required minimum grade you are looking for in the ‘Variations Or Comments’ column on the invoice. You might also want to stick a post-it note on the slabs notating the minimum requirements you are looking for.

You have several options when it comes to crossovers. Whichever option you choose must be clearly listed on the invoice. We can evaluate cards for the same grade or higher, for a higher grade only, for a lower minimum grade, for any numerical grade, or we can crack the cards out and regrade them entirely. The latter option would allow for the ‘Authentic’ designation in the event our graders detect trimming or other alteration on the card. If you have any questions concerning the crossover options available, please feel free to call Customer Service at 1-800-742-9212.

Shaunsteig,

I have no doubt that they'll upgrade a crossover card if warrented. Like ChadDurbin said, I trust them fully to accurately assess the grade of the card based on their criteria. But I wont crack this one out of its PSA holder. If SGC had a 4.5 grade, I'd be happy with that. But since they dont, any crossover will automatically get a bump up or a bump down and I'd rather avoid that bump down if I can.

At the end of the day, I need to keep in mind that the card is still the card and the grade shouldnt be the "end all, be all".

SGC will do it. I had a BVG 3.5 that crossed over to an SGC 50/4 about a year ago. I called Michael Goldberg and confirmed they would take a look at it.
