Cardholder for 1951 Topps Redback Panels?
 

I now have several panels of 1951 Topps redbacks, but I do not know what to store them in. Anyone else collect these, and have a solution besides getting them slabbed by a grading service? I've tried a couple of local card stores with no luck.

These books keep the cards flat, and safer than in a binder, in my opinion. I have all of my Topps sets, 1948 thru 1992, in them. Not to mention my Baseball Monthly supplements, TSN supplements, Butterfinger supplements, George Burke 8 X 10s, etc.

I always wondered how the panels were distributed, were they panel in the packs?

I believe the panels were issued in complete set form in plastic baggies (along with a team card and an all star card). Do a search on this forum and you should see several excellent posts by Dave Hornish on this subject.

Doug ~ I really like those books, and good idea about the pages, too. Do you first put the panels into a top loader or a sleeve? If so, what size?

I put the cards into pages, then the pages into the the 9 X 12 books, then I store them like this :

Doug ~ do you have any 1951 panels in those pages, or just individual cards? It's a nice setup, but the panels I have that are not slabbed seem like they could tear apart easily.

I have one of the "rack" packs mentioned. There is a complete set of the Red Backs in it in panel form. There are also 4 or 6 Connie Mack or Current All Star cards interspersed among the panels. I know they are not Team cards because the backgrounds are red rather than yellow. There is also a large game card. Unfortunately they are packaged in two columns with rubber bands around the cards at the perforations of the Red Backs. Since the AllStar cards have no perforation the rubber bands have been riding them for 60 years.

I have all 5 of the 51 sets done but for the 3 unissued Current All Stars , including all 18 team card variations

Doug--I wish I was as organized as you are. I have my Topps sets/packs through 1994 in binders ( still in boxes after that , but for the Heritage sets which I also put in binders), but I am still risking it with the ring binders and have not the patience to start over again :-(.

I also like to store my insert and test sets for each year with the main set and packs, so I use large binders for most years

Al, do you have the blueback set in panel form? There was a set in the 2008 REA auction (sold for $18,800) but that is the only one I've seen.

I have everything in those books. I don't slab anything, when I buy a slabbed card, I use one of these :

Doug, can you show a pic of one of those binders opened? Just curious how they look. From the picture you did show, they look like a much better way to store sets than in my mj roop binders.

I have no doubt that the cards are better protected in these books, the way I store them, than they would be in binders.

Thanks Doug, I'll definately pick some of those up. I can tell the sheets won't sag in those binders. Learn something new on 54 every day.:D
