Welcome to Bizarro world! I'll play.......here is mine.

Fake 33 Goudey Ruth that is not even close to being legit. As of 9:15 pm eastern time, it looks like the shill bidder got a bit carried away. Oh well, as we all know, shill bidding should only be done by trained professionals.

Lovely Day...

I don't know whether to feel sad for the buyers or contempt for the sellers, or both.

Looks like the last bidder had 1% seller activity. Hope there are returns accepted.

WC Fields, wherefore art thou?!

I would trust the opinions of this board members over a lot of dodgy e-bay sellers but I just don't know how you guys tell the fakes from the real ones. Were they ALL fakes?

Yes! All "110%" "bona-fide" "all-American" "eBay-inspired" obvious reprints, with the exception of the Helmar Joe Jackson which is a modern card (not a prewar card). Some believe the Helmar cards fall into the category of "art." Good luck with that!

Lovely Day...

I don't think the Helmar card should be included in the post. The company lovingly researched and hand produced some beautiful cards. On top of it, they then "aged" the card, to hopefully make it appeal to the collector/hobbyist rather that investor/grade obsessed. After all that, they offer it up for auction and let the collector market decide what it is worth. Not sure why anyone would ever have a problem with these issues. That said, I don't buy them at such prices...but I really like them.

You may be right, they are cool looking cards but $200+ for one seems a little steep.

That's funny, I was thinking the same thing

Maybe I'm off base here. But if you've got a grand to spend on a baseball card, you've got the intelligence to not get screwed by shady folks. You had to earn that money someway.

So that fact that there's this many people getting screwed, blows my mind

The old saying sums it all up:

"A fool and his money are soon parted."
