OT: Jordan signature

My son is going to a camp where Michael Jordan will sign one piece of memorabilia for each camper. What should I give my son to get signed?

David Atkatz 06-21-2010 08:53 PM

A contract assigning 25% of his future earnings to you.

cubsguy1969 06-21-2010 08:56 PM

How much time do you have till the camp? It would be cool to buy a copy of that Sports Illustrated with him and Sam Perkins on the cover in their North Carolina uniforms. He looks like such a baby in that picture.

I like the look of autographed magazine covers. I took a copy of Namath's Super Bowl SI to a card show some years back and had him sign it. He seemed pleased and wrote the final score of the game with an exclamation point next to his autograph, clearly still relishing the victory. (Who wouldn't, I suppose.)

Anyway, just a thought. You could always go the ball route. Basketballs are nice display items.

Go on eBay or Amazon and locate the earliest school yearbook featuring Jordan.

A nice silver signature on some black Jordans would look awesome.

All good ideas. Thanks guys. I have a little bit of time to find something.

David- my nephew went to the same camp about six years ago. He got Jordan to sign an NBA basketball. He still has it.

I agree with JBirkholm. I would suggest an early school yearbook. Maybe even a picture from his pre high school years.

Any early Fleer card

BillyCoxDodgers3B 06-22-2010 07:16 AM

While a single-signed ball or jersey is always a popular option, I would recommend finding something that is both unusual/rare to see signed, yet also would also appeal to a widespread crowd. The yearbook idea is only one such suggestion.

Baseball

I would almost certainly have him sign a Gene Budig (AL President in 1994) baseball, on the sweet spot. It is much easier to display than a basketball, and carries with it the story of Jordan trying baseball for the White Sox in 1994.

The biggest poster/photo you can find, or a a nice No Label SI with him during his NC days. No sense getting what everyone else has (balls etc.), get something different as this is a once in a lifetime shot. Or even a rookie card Fleer card. Buy a PSA6 (so you don't get stuck with a repo) and take a hammer to it.

I would look for the Jordan Ali poster get that signed and then pay five hundred to get Ali. Poster will be a couple of thousand or more in the next few years.

Rookie Card

I think I'd go with the rookie card.

pgellis 06-23-2010 04:40 AM

First of all, if you are giving your kid something to take to camp, to have signed, you have to think about possible damage by transporting, storing the piece at camp until Jordan shows up. A poster, photo, card, etc. could easily be damaged if not cared for. A kid could easily drop it or spill something on it. With that being said, I think the item that would best "travel" with a kid would be a basketball. You can keep it in the box and he can still sign it while in the box.

How about one like this.

I would go with a Fleer rookie. I would get the highest graded one I could afford, crack it out and have it signed. Just my 2 cents. :)

quinnsryche 06-25-2010 09:52 AM

I'd say....

a jersey is my choice. They really look awesome framed. Signed on the number on the back is best.

tinkereversandme 06-29-2010 05:29 PM

I would go with the unusual as well. Upper Deck has flooded the market with pictures, jerseys and balls. I dont like yearbooks, mostly because strangers who aren't famous usually sign it as well before you purchased the book. You don't see too many 86-87 Fleer rookie cards and I honestly think I would go with that. Then get PSA/DNA to fail it and then start a thread here. :-)

Larry

I don't get the yearbook thing. They're bulky, hard to display, and really not very cool at all.
