What Post-War cards do Pre-War Devotees Collect?
 

Are there any post-war cards or players that the pre-war community highly appreciates? If so, which ones and why? Thanks in advance for your comments & insight.

Here are some of my favorites...and all fit into my focus...type cards, yankees and HOF'ers. The maris and campy survived my childhood collection selloff to finance a car in high school. The others...some cards I always wanted as a kid but never had like the mantle, paige and 54 jackie robinson...others I grew to love as an adult that fits in my hof collection like the ted williams. I try to only buy cards I love...and these I love as much as any!

I have pretty much the same focus as pre-war, a few sets and HOFers. I only collect up through the mid-60's. I am currently working on a 1959 Bazooka set and have completed most Topps sets from '51 through '65 with the exception of the 52 highs which is a work in progress, a long one at that.

I collect the 1959 Topps set. The players bring back memories of my high school days. Just need six to complete the set in NM+ condition. 99% raw.

I am also working on the 1953 Topps set. About half way there. Pick up a few here and there. I remember opening packs of these as a kid.

I collect many post-war cards, but collecting the Mick is definitely right up there for me!

Post war sets:

Red Man - some of the best artwork/images of any cards produced IMO. They are just really beautiful cards.

I like most of the 1950's Topps sets especially 1952, 1954 & 1955. I am currently working on most of the other 1950's and 1960's topps sets too.

The 1964 Topps giants and 1968 Topps game sets are good because they offer a cheap way to get HOf'ers.

I like the 1950, 1951, 1952 Bowmans... not so big on the 1955 Bowman TV cards though.


Post war players:

Mantle - If I had one to choose one player to collect post-war it'd be him probably. Mantle's '65 Topps was one of my first big name HOF card purchases back in the mid-1980's so Mick has sentimental value to me from that perspective. I really regret not shelling out the $35 to get his auto at a card show back then.

I also collect the normal range of other 50's-60's HOF'ers including Ashburn, Banks, Brock, Mays, Aaron, Spahn, Mathews, Kaline, Killebrew, McCovey, Clemente, Gibson, Koufax, etc.

I collect Mickey Vernon cards since he was my dad's favorite player when he was a kid living in Ohio.

I also collect Hal and Max Lanier because my dad was friends with Hal growing up and going to college in St. Pete, FL.

I collect mid-grade Roy Campanella cards w/ a focus on eye appeal (especially centering). You can see them all here. Here are a few of my favorites for the lazy. ;)

I have several "post war" sets but these 3 sets are my favorite:

1955 Bowman, 1956 Topps, 1961 Topps. (Since I consider anything after 1919 postwar, I also have to include my DeLong set (not pictured).

Like my fellow sexagenarians (not what you're thinking, you dirty boys) Jacklitsch and T-Bob, I've collected cards that I once ripped from packs as a lad in the fifties. To date I have put together '53, '55 and '57 Topps sets in mid-grade condition. I also have '50 and '51 Bowman sets which pre-date the days when I was cognizant of baseball but which are really fine looking cards. My collecting focus is mostly pre-WW1 these days. I am not planning on putting together any other post-WW2 sets but I do occasionally like to pick up a nice "modern" card if the mood strikes.

The 1949 Bowman Satchell Paige ! Also have a Hank Aaron run in PSA 8, sweet. And (don't laugh) 1985 Topps football - gorgeous with the black borders.

I'm a fan of the 1950s Armour Coins, 1970s-80s Kellogs 3-D cards and uncommonn odd ball issues.

56 Topps baseball and 55 Topps All American complete sets in "collector" grade, because these were the first cards I had ever seen. Also any Eddie Mathews (my favorite player) cards and photos. 1960 was the first year I really bought a lot of card packs. I remember, in about 1981, thinking of buying an ex/mt set of 1960 Topps for $350, but convinced myself that was too much money.

Player collections of Ernie Banks, Eddie Mathews, Hank Aaron, Frank Robinson and Johnny Bench in PSA 7 or better, if possible

Player collections of Ozzie Smith, Ron Cey, Rickey Henderson and Kirby Puckett in PSA 9

Would love to afford to start on Jackie Robinson, Roy Campanella, and Willie Mays, but we'll see.

that reminds me, I need to start on Hank Greenberg and Arky Vaughan too...

I collect Phillies up to 1989.

I drool every time Leon posts that Lummis Peanut Butter (those are so difficult to find). I have been fortunate to own a few very tough type Phillies over the years including a Felins (tougher than Lummis but not by much) and a Father and Son shoes (also tougher than Lummis)...my wantlist is rather large still but contains mostly pre-war now (although there are quite a few tougher post war cards there as well).

Player sets of assorted prominent baseball players of the 1950's and 1960's. I just do the regular issues of each player. Collections of this type provide a nice historical overview of a player's career, as well as type card examples from each of the issues in which the player was included.

Watch out Joshua. I will have to post some really scarce Phillies stuff :D. Also, did you notice the hole in Puddinhead's mouth? That's so he can breath.....What a place to tack something on a wall.

I collect a boatload of postwar stuff. In baseball:

--1948 Leaf stars
--1952 Topps stars
--1954 Topps stars
--various Bell and Morrell Dodgers.
--various Koufax cards
--1971-1980 Topps
--all postwar Exhibits
--various star cards I wanted to own as a kid but never managed to get: 1952 Topps J. Robinson, 1957 Mantle, etc.; a long and eclectic list.

I prefer all but the 1970s in collector grade--more bang for the buck. It's about more cards for me, not higher grade. Makes it more fun to hunt.

60's and 70's Laughlin sets. Started when I was a kid in the 1970's.

Red Sox
 

I collect Americans/Red Sox from the start of the Franchise up to the mid eighties but made a decision about 1986 to abort modern stuff. Too much stuff to discern. It was good decision as I started on pre-war Sox stuff in the late eighties.

I collect Brooklyn Dodgers and one of my top 5 post-war cards is the 1952 Topps Gil Hodges.

I have knocked out the following:
