Posted By: Al
I am not a graded card or registry person. I put together my set in 1963 through the Card Collectors Company of NY, buying it in series as they came out. In addition to the set I have variations for cards 54 ( Rookies), 102 (CL), 341 ( Baldschun), 431 ( CL), 454 ( Fowler), 509 ( CL). If anyyone knows of others, I would be interested.

From 63 I also have an unopened wax pack, one of the Christmas rack packs ( yes I know what they are),, two versions of the Ruth Topps Valentine Foldees, which PSA lists as a 70 issue and SCD as a 63 issue ( I will defer to David H on that story).. Also have the two baseball subjects in the Topps Great American Stamp set for that year, Ruth and Gehrig, plus two proofs of the Gehrig. Also have set of the Peel Off inserts for that year. Alas, no Mantle Mask send away

1963 Topps Master Set

Posted By: Dan P.
I completed a 1963 set in the pre-graded era (late 70's/early 80's). At the same time I was working to complete all the sets I collected as a kid (1960-64). At one of the card shops I frequented, the owner was a bonehead. When he purched a large volume of cards for inventory he'd get people to help sort the cards into the groups for display (Phillies/Phila. A's binder, Mets/Yankees/N.Y. Giants/Brooklyn Dodgers binder, binder with stars of all other teams, display case for expensive cards, and boxes with commons organized by year). The dealer understood the concept of high numbers and would pull the common high numbers for the stars binder but he never verified that his helpers would do the same. As a result, I found many 1963 high numbers ($4-$6 at that time) in with the low number commons (25 cents to 50 cents at that time). I bought as many high numbers from all of those years as I could without tipping him off to what I was doing.
