is anyone seeing what I may be in this photo? No, I do not see Joe Jackson. Just cutting that out of the conversation before it even starts. :)

He is giving the bird with the left hand in the pocket?

A bird in the pocket is worth ...?

Brian Van Horn 07-05-2015 10:41 AM

LOL. I have to admit I was not looking there, but that now adds to the value of the photo for me. I meant something above the waist, say in facial recognition.

gnaz01 07-05-2015 10:42 AM

Is that a roll of quarters.......? :D

If you squint really hard and close your good eye it looks like a young Walter Johnson to me.:)

What is the shadow of Thurman Munson doing in the left of the image? I've stick-drawn where the "ghost image" is. Your eyes may vary...

I've been working on this since the original post. I have eliminated the following

Reggie Jackson

Geronimo

Bo Derek

Working on a fourth

The Big Six

Kinda looks like a young Christy Mathewson to me???

Brian Van Horn 07-05-2015 04:31 PM

Tom,

When I picked up this cabinet today I thought the same thing. So, to a point I am in agreement with you, but I think it also resembles another New York pitcher (the other "New York" franchise) and a guy who pitched for the Pirates prior to New York.

The first name that came to my mind was "Dummy" Taylor.

Stonepony 07-05-2015 04:42 PM

Young WJ

DHogan 07-05-2015 05:38 PM

Billy The Kid.

sb1 07-05-2015 05:45 PM

I can assure you it's not WJ., Please tell who you think it is.

I have my guess, although it's in all likelyhood not him. His intials are J.C.

He must mean Jack Chesbro who pitched for Pitt and NY.

Looks like a young Mordecai Brown to me. Pre-accident of course.:D

Brian Van Horn 07-05-2015 07:23 PM

Thank you, Scott, Peter and Paul. That was my mindset.

bobbvc 07-05-2015 09:30 PM

Looks like Sonny Gray to me.

Steve D 07-06-2015 06:24 PM

My first thought was also Jack Chesbro.

If it helps, I can only find two towns named Cortland, one in New York, and one in Ohio; so it appears that the photo was taken in Cortland, Ohio.
