Net54baseball NFL Playoff Pool

With the NFL season ending today, it's time for our 5th annual Net54 Playoff Pool. Anyone can participate and the only requirement is that you have a pulse (and even that can be waived). The rules are simple:

All picks must be in by 4:00 PM on the day of the first game, which is usually right before kickoff. Certainly make sure they are in before the game starts. For the first two rounds it will be Saturday, for the final two Sunday. Just post them on this thread when you've got them. Last year Frank B. did a crackerjack job keeping track and posting weekly standings, and he said he is happy to do it again. If someone else is chomping at the bit to take over, just let us know.

All Wild Card games are worth 1 point
All Conference Semi-Finals are worth 2 points
Conference Finals are worth 3 points each
The Superbowl is worth 5 points

Whoever gets the most points will win a beautiful never been worn Net54 T-shirt, compliments of our own Leon. Thanks Leon for making it exciting. In the case of a tie, we will cut the T-shirt into equal portions for the winners.

Tonight's late game will decide the 12th and final playoff berth, so start posting your picks tomorrow. It's always been fun and this year should be so too. Good luck to everyone.

Leon 12-29-2013 04:48 PM

Good luck Barry and all who play. Lots of T shirts left so we should be good to go. I moved this from the water cooler section so more will see it.

Pythonfactory 12-29-2013 04:54 PM

I am in. Seahawks are looking like they will lock up home field advantage throughout the playoffs. Go Hawks!

That would be a great game (and think Hawks would shut down Peyton).. But also think true SB this year will be best 2 NFC teams like it was throughout the 90's. Niners/Seahawks

I think the Niners and Seahawks are real close and I love a good defense more than a good offense...this is where I can't stand the Broncos. But to be honest, I haven't seen the Niners do much on defense lately and that scares me because Kap isn't as great as he was last year and I don't think he can carry them. Should be an awesome playoffs and I can't wait to watch it all go down!

AndyG09 12-29-2013 06:43 PM

Thanks Barry, Leon, and Frank B.! I would like to start a pool as for when the Lions fire Jim Schwartz. Like the guy, but he's gotta go.

Best,

Andy

Peyton gonna win number 2 this year and finish off one of the greatest seasons for a QB.

I predict Peyton loses, as usual. History has proven he underperforms in the playoffs. Give me Brady any day (and especially Sunday).

Oh you mean brady that hasn't won a Super Bowl since they were caught cheating. Also the pats will be knocked out in the first game they play.

DOlphins

Why do the Miami Dolphins suck every year?

They give me false hope, and shoot themselves in the foot. I'm sick of them!!

Sorry, I had to vent.

Tony

Peyton Manning Career Playoff Record: 9-11, With Eight One-and-Done Postseason Trips

Tom Brady is 17-6

Your point is?

npa589 12-29-2013 07:54 PM

Go Bears!

:D...........................

Mikehealer 12-29-2013 08:00 PM

Not that I care about either(but for the sake of accuracy), Brady is 17-7 in the playoffs. 7-7 the last 8 years.

Peter_Spaeth 12-29-2013 08:08 PM

Head to head. Brady 10 Manning 4. Just sayin.

Mikehealer 12-29-2013 08:14 PM

I'm just saying the stat you posted is wrong.

+1. The job that Belichick has done with all of the injuries is unreal. Pats over Cincy at home, then over Peyton in Denver, then over the Hawk's in NJ!!

Best,

Andy

I heard from a fairly inside source that JS and all coordinators were out as of this past Monday, but they let them finish out the season.

Mike-- I hear ya, but do feel pretty good about our D. I know they've given up a couple big passing days, but on the whole they've carried this season. Kaep's streakiness worries me a bit... As does having to travel to GB, but I like SF's chances. Also- it was very impressive to go 7-1 in a division that had a cumulative 42-22 record (wonder if best division record ever??).

freakhappy 12-29-2013 09:31 PM

I'll give it to ya, Ian...the Niners just seem to get it done. I was really hoping they would've won it last year, but their defense really let them down in the playoffs last year...I thought for sure it was their year to win it :(

Just a few years ago, the NFC West was a joke and now it's arguably the best division in football! I have to say that I really like every team in that division...just plain scrappy and they play defense!!! I can see a handful of teams winning it this year...should be very entertaining indeed. It's going to be very tough to go into Denver and win...I'm just not seeing it this year. Peyton will be ready this year and should be playing in February. I really wouldn't be surprised to see any NFC team make it in...they are all dangerous and good enough to go.

Barry Made Me Do It

Enough chatter. Let the games begin.
Pick all four winners next weekend worth 1 point each.
Just list your picks for the four winners.

Saints (NO) vs Eagles (Phil)
49ers (SF) vs Packers (GB) - easy pick here
Chargers (SD) vs Bengals (CIN)
Chiefs (KC) vs Colts (IND)

All picks must be made before the kick off of the first game of the weekend.
No points, no spreads. Your pick wins and you score a point.

If there is a possibility of a tie going into the Super Bowl week, a tiebreaker total points guess for both teams in the Super Bowl with determine the winner. Duplicate guesses will not be allowed. Only those with a chance of tying for the lead will be asked to submit a tiebreaker guess. You will be identified well in advance.

The second weekend, each pick is worth 2 points.

The conference playoffs are worth 3 points each.

The Super Bowl is worth 5 points.

You get to pick every game every week.

Hope I got the pairings right. I will announce the cutoff time for picks once I find out when the first game is.

The spreadsheet is ready to go. I accept bribes. Have at it.

itjclarke 12-29-2013 10:08 PM

Saints (NO) vs Eagles (Phil)- Saints
49ers (SF) vs Packers (GB) - Niners!! (yep, that was easy!:D)
Chargers (SD) vs Bengals (CIN)- Chargers
Chiefs (KC) vs Colts (IND)- Chiefs (they and Alex will surprise like 2011 Niners)

drcy 12-29-2013 10:13 PM

Touchdown of the day. Even the guy who scored was fooled. For those who missed it, it looks like an incomplete pass but was really a fumble. Nearly everyone, including the guy who picked up the ball, thought the play was over.

Please note that Frank's rules supersede mine, since he is keeping score. In other words, you can make your picks later than noon on the day of the games. I don't know about the bribes part, but that's between you and Frank.:)
