I'm always willing to talk about signed 1933 Goudey cards, do you have any?

It has been a while, so I wanted to give an update on my collection.

I now have what I believe to be the most complete signed 1933 Goudey set in the country. If you have any of the cards below, please let me know, even if you don't want to part with them:

25 Paul Waner
29 Jimmie Foxx
31 Tony Lazzeri
38 Fred Brickell
70 Pete Scott
88 Russell Rollings
89 Tris Speaker
90 Jess Petty
119 Rogers Hornsby
154 Jimmie Foxx
158 Moe Berg
173 Roscoe Holm
175 Dan Howley
207 Mel Ott
211 Hack Wilson
229 Arky Vaughan

I've been slowly adding Uncle Jimmy signed 1933 Goudey cards to my collection, because they are in such great shape and the provenance is undeniable. I now have over 50 signed 1933 Goudey cards from the Uncle Jimmy Collection, and I guess I'm going to go for 100! I'd love to put together as much of his collection as I can. His story really resonated with me.

My book on the 1933 Goudey set is also coming along nicely. I hope to have it published this November! If you have any neat stories about the 1933 Goudey set, message me!

If you have an Instagram account, and haven't followed me yet, please do! If you like baseball, you won't be disappointed!

I've also done several podcasts recently. If you're really bored, you can search signed 1933 Goudey on YouTube and see me ramble about my collection.

Finally, if you have any signed 1933 Goudey cards, please let me know! I'm always looking for upgrades. Even if you aren't ready to part with your cards just yet, I'd love to know what you have! I'm always looking for signed 1933 Goudey cards from the Uncle Jimmy Collection!

I appreciate you all!

I do have a few and need to send them to PSA, getting to love vintage cards with signatures - good luck with your collection!

This is the only one I have. Picked it up a couple of years ago because it was only $15.

Only one right now, but such a beautiful autograph and perfect placement. He was later a coach for the original Mets. Sadly, he passed that very same year.

(Borders are fine--bad scan.)

I have this one of Ed Brandt, which is difficult since he died in 1944....

Republicaninmass 09-12-2022 08:19 AM

Hi Marty! I have a few easier names. They just present so well. More so with period fountain pen signatures

Yoda 09-12-2022 09:44 AM

I hold a beautiful signature card of Joe Sewell . Sadly, it is my only autographed '33 Goudy in the collection.

I collected the 1933 Goudey set about fifteen years ago. Bought them one and two at a time off eBay, cracked them out and put them in a cool Roop binder. Even found a low grade Lajoie to complete the set. Only one was autographed but it was a good 'un, the #92 Gehrig elegantly signed in pencil. Sold it to some lucky fellow in the first LOTG auction. There have been a couple of big waves of signed '33 Goudeys in auctions in the past few years. Love the fact that they are good old-fashioned pen signatures and not slapdash Sharpies. For the heck of it I picked up a Charlie Root card. Always liked him and am firmly in his court regarding the 1932 Ruth "called shot". He said "If I thought he called his shot I'd have put one in his ear" or words to that effect. Good enough for me.

Will look forward to the publication of your book. Keep us updated on its availability.

Regarding the neat Ed Brandt autographed card. Brandt, born in 1905 was killed on November 2, 1944 when he was struck by a car while crossing a street in Spokane.

Yowzers on Lou and Root.

I haven't sent this to PSA for authentication yet, but another auto I bought from the same seller graded already, so I assumed this will be fine. Can you show your Urban "Red" Faber auto please when you have a chance for comparison?

Thanks.

I got this Bill Dickey back in March at a local show.

martyesullivan 09-13-2022 07:53 PM

The Faber is no good, it was signed by his wife.

The Dickey is nice, great pickup!

Thanks to everyone that messaged me! If you have any signed 1933 Goudey cards that you might be willing to part with, please send me a photo of what you have! Heck, even if you don't want to get rid of anything, I'd still love to see your signed 33's! Feel free to email me if you don't want to post here: martyesullivan@yahoo.com

martyesullivan 09-13-2022 08:00 PM

And the Brandt is great! Somehow, I own two!

I wanted a 1933 card from the uncle Jimmy collection so I studied every single lot and this was the most appealing to me. The Richards is another signed Goudey I have.

Joe: Love the Willie Kamm signature. Richards managed the Orioles when I was a kid and I remember seeing him at Yankee games. Thought you might like a look at this Worch cigar.

HercDriver 09-13-2022 10:53 PM

Richards

I’m no autograph expert, or even novice, but those last two Richards cards look nothing alike.

Cheers,
Geno

I wanted to bump this up and say Happy Holidays to you all! 2022 has been an outstanding year for my collection and that's really because of the collecting community. I've done several podcasts, which can be found on YouTube by searching for signed 1933 Goudey. If you're not following me on Instagram, please do @signed1933Goudey

I currently have 217 of the 239 cards in the set signed and I hope to cross the 220 mark in 2023. If you have any signed 1933 Goudey cards, or if you see any in the wild, do let me know. I'm always looking for signed 33's from the Uncle Jimmy collection! Please reach out!

Happy Holidays!

My best,

Do you have this one? For sale for $125 on Vintage Baseball Cards in Facebook

Beautiful cards

martyesullivan 12-24-2022 12:20 PM

That Hayes is from 1934, but thanks for reaching out!

brianp-beme 12-24-2022 12:25 PM

Just noticed this thread. Kamm had a pretty decent career in baseball, but he should be in the inaugural class of the HOP (Hall Of Penmanship).

Cronin / Hoyt - No Idea if They are Legit

As a kid in the 1970s I sent cards of Hoyt and Cronin away to get them signed. I've heard that some guys didn't sign materials sent to them. Are Hoyt and Cronin guys who did that?

Hoyt answered a letter for me when I was a kid.

martyesullivan 12-25-2022 01:19 PM

Hoyt and Cronin did regularly sign through the mail.

Happy New Year! I'm still looking for signed 1933 Goudey cards. If you have any, or see any in the wild, do let me know. Specifically, I'd like to add any of these to my collection:

25 Paul Waner
29 Jimmie Foxx
31 Tony Lazzeri
38 Fred Brickell
70 Pete Scott
88 Russell Rollings
89 Tris Speaker
90 Jess Petty
119 Rogers Hornsby
154 Jimmie Foxx
158 Moe Berg
173 Roscoe Holm
175 Dan Howley
207 Mel Ott
211 Hack Wilson
229 Arky Vaughan

I'm also interested in any from the Uncle Jimmy Collection. I currently have over 50 signed 33's from the Uncle Jimmy Collection and I'd eventually like to get at least 100.

I appreciate any help you can offer! If you're on Instagram and not following me, please check me out @signed1933goudey

My best,
Marty S.

I don't have any signed Goudey's but I would buy a book on the 1933 Goudey's. Let us know when it's done and how to purchase. Good luck.

REA Goudey Gehrig Auto

Been watching the beautiful 33 Goudey #92 Gehrig with that crisp auto across the sweetspot on REA this week. Sitting at about $100K before the vig. Curious what you guys think this card could close at? $150K+ $200K?

I saw a Chasing Cardboard episode with you in it. I missed the end. Did that guy end up making you an offer and getting your collection?

martyesullivan 04-08-2024 09:45 PM

Hey guys, I appreciate the kind words about my appearance on Chasing Cardboard. It was a lot of fun, and the only thing I'm kicking myself about is for some reason I said Connie Marrero was a catcher...he wasn't, he was a pitcher, not sure how I got that one confused!

I'm not trying to sell my collection, so no offer was made. We worked out a trade for a 90's Jordan card that I needed to finish a set.

I'm still looking for signed 33 Goudey cards. If you have any, please reach out and if you're on Instagram, give me a follow @signed1933Goudey

My best,
Marty S.
