Biggest regrets?
I've been out of the game for a couple years, recently got the itch to jump back in. Great to see the market so strong for vintage and modern.
I noticed that I last posted in 2013 when I was liquidating my Playoff Contenders RC Ticket Auto collection. I threw up a bit in my mouth looking up recent sales on these... I had Manning, Brady, Brees, Peppers, Fitz, Rodgers, etc. All BGS 9 or better with the exception of Manning and Peppers (8). I see a Brady BGS 9 with the same exact subs as mine sold earlier this summer for $12,600. I think I sold mine for ~$2500? All part of the game, I know... Sold them all for more than I paid so I should be happy but it still... These things appreciated more than Amazon stock! The money went to a good cause and I replaced most of them with a non-auto RC but man do I wish I could have a do-over! Anyone else feel like sharing their biggest "oops"? |
Too many to list....
1965 Namath rookie PSA 7 sold for $2,000 1953 Topps Mantle PSA 5 for $1,100 1954 Hank Aaron rookie SGC 7 for $1,750 come to mind If you sell enough cards, you will remember the ones that blew up after they left your possession. |
I regret ones I didn't buy much more than I regret ones I sold that, in hindsight, I should have kept.

Sold a stack of Jordan rookies back in the day for 20 bucks a pop.
I probably don't regret that deal as much as the guy who traded me that stack of Jordan Rookies and a big pile of other 1986 Fleer Basketball Stars and Rookies for a stack of 50's-60's Washington Redskins football cards. I mean they were stars, but they aren't worth much more now, then they were back in the late 80's. |

Good stuff. Sorry if I brought back any bad memories.
Stack of Jordans @ $20 ea... Wow. Speaking of Jordans and cards you regret not buying more than the ones you sold... When I was about 13 I was at a show with my dad and I really wanted to buy a nice looking Fleer Jordan RC for $100. For me at the time, that was ten weeks savings from mowing the lawn. He talked me out of spending so much on one card so I bought two boxes and some loose packs of early 90s junk. To this day I tell myself it might have been a counterfeit to feel better about it. :) |

'33 Goudey Lajoie PSA 3, for $10k. Not sure if this would've finished '33 or '34 ;) '15 CJ Jackson in PSA 3, for $5k. '52 Topps Mantle in PSA 3, for $5k. Just realized all 3 were PSA 3's, and I was holding out for a better version. Better I shouldn't have been a condition whore and used these to upgrade from. Lesson learned. |
Sold these over 15 years ago...
1914 Cracker Jack Joe Jackson PSA 3 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth Red PSA 4 1939 Play Ball Ted Williams PSA 8 (2) 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle PSA 2 |

This card right here!
Don't know what I was thinking, other than $460 dollars U.S. was a lot of money and money I could put towards my 52 Topps collection, but once I finally inquired about it then finding out he sold it after waiting for me to make up my mind for a couple of months, I immediately regretted not acting sooner! This same seller also had a very nice, centered, #276 Jim Wilson in his auction that I had saved in my watch list but forgot about it. It went for a whopping $14 dollars and would have easily graded a 6, imo. Live and learn as they say. :( |
My only big regret in the hobby is selling my 1948 leaf Larry Doby PSA 2 that was perfectly centered with good focus. I sold it at a time that I needed the money for other things in life.

1951 bowman mantle
Passed on a 1951 Bowman Mantle psa 6 for $4,000 about 10 years ago.

Thanks for the memories....
Back in the day, I sold 3 mint cards to help pay for a wedding ring for my first wife.
The cards were a 1957 Topps Ted Williams, Frank Robinson, and a beauty of a 1969 Topps Reggie Jackson. So I don't have the cards anymore, neither do I have the wife or the ring.....should have just kept the cards as I enjoyed them more. |

... and second.
Eight OPC Gretzky RC's just after we had our second daughter. Needed the cash at the time. |
After Jean-Michel Basquiat died in 1988, I remember thinking this guy is going to be a super important painter and I should buy some of his work.
I didn't.:( |
Been collecting since 69/74/77 depending on when you'd count from.
Sooo many regrets, mostly about not buying things. When I started 52 Mantles hadn't gone over 1000 yet. T206 Hof ers who weren't Cobb were usually $10 in VG, or even a bit better. Topps Orr rookie was 100... 100!! that was insane for a hockey card at the time. Goudey Ruths were around 100. Aaron rookie 60... I'm going to go be sad and play some games on my phone now.... |
Bought yahoo as an ipo for 33.5 100 shairs, sold it in 15 min at 44.5 made 1000 in 15 min. 🙀 worst 1000 i ever made.
