Exciting game to be at last night. Got home late and didn't get much more than 3 hours sleep but I think I got my money's worth out of that one :)

Go Royals!!

I just knew that one day, one day, I would have a reason to post this photo :)

A signed Basketball from the 1998 Princeton team.

Attachment 209664

Captain Chris Young front and center.

Just to right is Gabe Lewullis, who made the back door lay-up to beat defending NCAA champs in round one. Below right is Nate Walton (the not so great son of Bill), and below that is Joe Scott (assistant coach, did a decent job at Air Force for a few years). Then John Thompson III (also assistant coach, now, of course, Georgetown)

It was sad that Young was not allowed to play basketball for PU his senior year. This was do to him signing a major league contract. The NCAA would have allowed it, but the Ivy League said no.

(Owned two season seats for ~15 years, four rows behind PU bench. So close you could hear Pete Carril's teeth grind, and see the steam coming out his ears. Also funny, the Governor's office had seat four rows behind me.)

Go Royals. Was a fun game to be at.

GasHouseGang 10-28-2015 04:23 PM

Until the power went out! I was surprised at first that the game didn't continue without the television coverage. But I guess the umpires couldn't use instant replay until the TV coverage came back on line.

2015 Royals - Just might have witnessed the best late inning team in baseball history!

KC Royals
2015 World Series Champs.

At 12:33 a.m. the Royals won the World Series. From one small market team fan to Kansas City, congratulations!

kmac32 11-01-2015 10:41 PM

Quite a series

cardsfan73 11-01-2015 10:42 PM

Congratulations to the team on the other side of the state! Enjoy it Royal's fans, your team had a hell of a year! Also want to give kudos to a life long baseball guy, Ned Yost!

Congratulations Royals and your fans (all my in laws included)!!! I think I speak for most/all Giants fans in saying we were rooting for you and we LOVE the way you play.

Clean defense and aggressive baserunning mean a HELL of a lot more than the saber-geniuses will ever understand, or quantify.

...and gloves, too!

I'm especially happy for Chris Young and Kris Medlin after all they have gone through in the last few years.

Today is a sad day, however, as it marks the end of the Baseball Season...

I always have trouble with that day...I may move to Venezuela for the winter.

The only thing I was mad about was that KC didn't sweep!!
Hats off to the 2015 Royals, they earned it. I knew last year
when they left the tying run on third base on G7 they were
gonna be hungry this year. I'm not a Royals fan, but I could
tell ALL season long they had some unfinished business to take
care of.

And, oh by the way, was nice to see Murphy the goat is alive
and well......

It's been a long time KC, enjoy it!!

7nohitter 11-02-2015 05:06 AM

Any team that beats the Mets is good with me.

Still taking the 1986 series personally.

Friggin Gary Carter and his afro jumping around all over the place. idiot.

Way to go Royals.. Best part is KC Police Dept reported no fights, arrests, looting, fires, etc. during celebration.

Wish I could be in KC for the parade.

Congrats to the Royals and their fans. They were relentless!

There are a lot of really good players on this team, but no real superstars. Any guesses on who from this team might make the Hall of Fame? They were in the WS last year and won it this year, so that's a pretty big accomplishment.

That's a really good question. Salvadore Perez is probably the only one with a toe in the door at this early stage.

Go Royals!

darwinbulldog 11-02-2015 01:37 PM

Zobrist probably has a toe in the door too. Maybe Cueto. At this point they don't have anyone that seems like better than about a 50-50 shot.

Orioles1954 11-02-2015 01:38 PM

Alex Gordon is also a FA but I have to imagine he wants to return.

icollectDCsports 11-02-2015 06:56 PM

So glad the Royals won. In the years (34) that DC did not have a team, the Royals were one of my favorites. So many heartbreaks in the '70s vs. the Yankees. Thankfully, they were able to pull out the '85 Series (controversially) but I wasn't sure they'd have the resources to compete for a championship again. Last year was a great story and it's great to see them see them win it all this year. Have never seen anything like their comeback ability. Just amazing.

I'm saying he's about the only projectible on the team that has a shot if he continues at his current level. If you can't grasp that then you don't have any idea of the player.

Queto, no way. Love Zobrist but he has about as much chance as Buddy Biancalana.

I was glad a team besides a NY team won as the Yankees are a dynasty. I actually watched some of this series which is unusual.

Salvador Perez hasn't performed at anywhere near a Hall of Fame level at any point in his career. He's a good defensive catcher with some pop. But including him in the conversation of potential Hall of Famers is silly. If you want to look at potential HoF catchers playing now, Buster Posey is the measuring stick. Perez isn't even in the same galaxy as Posey.

Oh, and congratulations to the Royals. Very happy for them.

Perez - 25 years old
3 time All Star
3 time Gold Glove
2 World Series
1 World Series MVP

I'd say that's worthy of sticking one toe in the door, yet knowing there's a long way to go. To deny that is to not have watched him over the course of a year. Outsiders just don't know what this guy brings. His biggest problem is that he plays so many innings and takes such a beating that his body likely won't hold up.

It takes a while for people to get what a catcher like Perez brings to the table. Same thing happened here with Yadier Molina. But one the national media got it, now they can't help but fall all over themselves gushing about Yadi. I feel like Perez is a very under rated player.

I served with Yadier Molina. I knew Yadier Molina. Yadier Molina was a friend of mine. Salvator, you're no Yadier Molina!

Scott - You hit it on the nose with the Molina comparison. Time will tell but Perez has the potential to follow in Molina's tracks, hopefully. Molina didn't gain traction until he had been around a while. Perez is only 25 years old.
