Another One Bites the Dust (Cobb Stall & Dean Sign)

Well, I guess people will never learn. Someone got duped by another fake Ad Sign out of Ohio... to the tune of $900. Sure wish we could communicate with fellow ebayers, like in the good old days.

Oh well... very few segments of the hobby (if any) are not corrupted....

Following up on my own post...

This one should actually be interesting. When you look at his shipping charge, this is what appears....

Shipping:
US $98.73 Signed shipping to authenticator, then to you. See details for shipping
Located in: Mechanicsburg, Ohio, United States

So it looks like eBay is treating this like a "trading card" and will send it to a TPG for authentication (before it ships to the Buyer). Something tells me the TPG won't know squat about this, and that the sale will actually go through.

Hope not.

But, but, but...it says right there in the auction title it is "authintic!"

Yeah, they listed it in the trading cards category. Won’t get authenticated, but might still get pushed on without authentication. Buyer could still return it for almost any reason if they come to their senses before it’s too late.

Is this thing a copy of something that actually exists or a complete fantasy piece?

I carried on a conversation with the seller yesterday knowing full well these were no good and to see what he said about the authentication process. I play dumb:)
Seller claims to have sent shoes thru the authentication process lol

What a ridiculous conversation. He says it was appraised at $990. In reality, it's either a $25 item (when properly disclosed as a reprint) or a $15,000 item (if improperly sold as authentic). In no world, is it worth $990.

Believe it or not, Stall & Dean is still around. They sell what they call their "Memorabilia Collection". Below is a link.... if you scroll down, you'll see they are selling used/beaten-up vintage S&D Uniforms for multi-thousands of dollars... $25,000.00 for items that routinely sell (on eBay and elsewhere) for under $200, yet are identical.

Yes, they are charging 125 times fair market value for their wares. With that profit margin in mind, note how they are peddling these same exact Cobb Signs (properly listed as a reprints) for $1,000. Here's the link...

So Stall and Dean appraises it for $990.... +$10

Yes.... which means it's worth about $10.

That is not the same S&D business that made the original equipment. The name has changed hands several times over the last 4 or 5 decades.

Reassuring that it goes through the "AUTHINTIFICATION" process!
