June Pickups

Not a Ty Cobb back (Ryan's post should be pinned its such a beauty), but been looking for a decently graded coupon for some time. There is a crease/wrinkle above the bat that accounts for the grade.
|
Very nice way to start the month -- great looking Coupon!

Being I'm from Atlanta, thrilled to have picked this up off the BST. Don't see many Southern Leaguer postcards out there, and narrowing it down to Atlanta makes it that much more difficult.
Doubt I'll bother getting it graded. :) <a href="https://ibb.co/d66pS6S"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/2PPMwPw/fullsizeoutput-1b6.jpg" alt="fullsizeoutput-1b6" border="0"></a><a href="https://ibb.co/y5LWxQF"><img src="https://i.ibb.co/gwszcRZ/fullsizeoutput-1b8.jpg" alt="fullsizeoutput-1b8" border="0"></a> |

1908 Scranton Miners team photo featuring Moonlight Graham. Won it from REA recently. Couldn't resist after scoring the Rose postcard a month or so ago. Just had the photo framed. Will try to put up a jpeg of the finished product if I find a minute.

Love it David!

Love that Cy Young Pete, congrats

June Pickups
Hi all. Most of my activity is over in the postwar forum, but I’ve started dabbling with prewar again just recently. A while ago, I realized that though I’ve been a Chicago Cubs fan for 30 years, I’ve never really had any prewar Cubs cards of any significance in my collection. Changed that today with this pickup. Presents really well for the grade, I think.

Clark's Bread
This arrived in today's mail:
https://www.collectorfocus.com/image...us/67592/faberhttps://www.collectorfocus.com/image...us/67593/faber Looks like I will be taking advantage of SGC's crossover special soon! :) |
Tom, very nice looking Clark's Bread card for the grade, and I feel that you got it at a good price.
|
Very nice Tom. We’ve seen a little group of these Clark’s bread cards pop up over the past couple months. I think that’s very misleading. These are tough and they’ll dry up and we will go a while without seeing too many.
|
Gonna just have some fun upgrading some of my T206’s for the time being.

Thanks Dave! I was excited to see that there was a Chicago Americans in that group of 7 or 8 that appeared recently, and I hoped that the owner would eventually make it available for sale. Now that I have it, it will be staying as a part of my White Sox type collection for a while. ;) |

Another catcher real picture postcard
1 Attachment(s)
Picked up this real picture postcard dated 12/9/1910.
The swastika on the uniform was a positive symbol back in 1910 with meanings including: ‘Well Being’, ‘Good Existence, and ‘Good Luck’. This young man's name was Raymond Garcia, and he played for the L.W. Blinn Lumber Company circa 1910. I wouldn't be surprised that Chief Meyers might have been someone he followed since he was from CA and also spoke Spanish. Patrick |

Couple of cards from the long-term want list.
I don't usually go in for Authentic cards, but the eye appeal and cost savings on the e90-1 swayed me. That leaves more funds for the rest of the run (see below)... Attachment 356115Attachment 355929 Attachment 355930 |
Nice!
Great Cobb's Jason!
|
Killer post, Jason. Love seeing all those well-centered Cobbs.
|
Hey thanks guys -- obviously 3-4 more key Cobbs on my list, but it's been fun finding these pieces over the last 8 years
. |
Holy crap Jason. Awesome haul - that’s about as good a post as I have seen. Congrats

1886 Lorillard Detroit...
2 Attachment(s)
Just bought this today at an estate auction. Not the best condition and not the price I was hoping for, but I love the graphics. Originally handed out at a grocery store about an hour from me.
|
Well done Matt, The Lorillard Team card is great. I enjoy all 19th century Detroit items, particularly those that originated or were distributed in Detroit. Lorillard did a great job capturing the Tomlinson portraits.

Just picked this up; yes, PWCC (ok, throw the insults). But it’s a Brown Lenox, and how often to you get a chance to pick these up, once a year, at most?
PS- great look Cobb Chuck, congrats |
no need to apologize. stuff trumps everything.
|
I love the kid in the stands photobombing the Scranton team.

Nice Brown Lenox Ryan, my bid wasn’t big enough. Glad you got it...

|
Ken, as I said on a different thread- that is one beast of a card.
Dan, I love that you bought back your own card. I have done that myself (at least twice) Jeff, great great pickups. Congrats C-MACK- that’s a hell of a haul. A relatively quiet, but impressive, June so far. |

I had been looking for a 52 Topps Eddie Mathews or a T206 Red Cobb. I found a nice Mathews first and could really only afford one. So I found this bad boy last night to fill in for the T206 Red Cobb till I can save up for a nice beater Red Cobb with a Old Mill back. The cracked slab made it even cheaper.:D
Mine is # 450/777, can't believe how much these Lucky 7 Promo cards have been selling for. |

postcards

These are on the Japanese thread on the other side of the board, but since they're pre-war I thought I'd share them here too.
In 1909 the University of Wisconsin sent a baseball team to Japan to play a series of games against the Keio and Waseda University teams. Some post cards were printed to commemorate the occasion. The postcard with the action shot below is a view of the 9/22/09 game between Wisconsin and Keio that Keio won in 11 innings. There's a scoreboard in the background, and squinting through a loupe at it leads me to believe that this picture was taken in the bottom of the 4th inning. That would put the Americans in the field and Keio at bat. No future major leaguers in this game, but if those are the Americans are in the field there's a good chance that the catcher would go on to be a justice of the Wisconsin State Supreme Court. The other postcard is notable for how old it is. It's postmarked June 1, 1891, which is only about 20 years after baseball was introduced to Japan. It's the earliest baseball-related Japanese card that I've ever encountered. |
Whoa, great Ruth!
