Are SCD still grading cards? Board opinion?

Posted By: Bob Rousseau
Hello all-

I've been away from the board for a long time but have recently started lurking.

I'm wondering whether SCD is still grading cards and, if they are, what the Board's opinion is of their work? A few years ago when they started, they seemed to be getting decent reviews hereabouts. I don't know whether that's changed or not. I have a few T206s graded by them- I would use other services were I to get cards graded even though they did a good job with these (I bought them in SCD slabs graded).

Cheers-

Bob

Are SCD still grading cards? Board opinion?

Posted By: Mark
Bob, SCD closed down its card grading service a little more than a year ago. I had a card graded by the last grader during his last week. Too bad they didn't put "last graded" on the label. I agree they were pretty decent graders, conservative if anything.

Are SCD still grading cards? Board opinion?

Posted By: Bob Rousseau
Mark-
Thanks for responding. I thought that the general opinion was they were on the conservative side. I'm wondering whether it's worth it to get the cards I have from them reslabbed by someone else. I wonder though how much the graders would be effected by the already existing SCD grade- "We don't want to appear like easier graders than them", etc.

Posted By: Elliot
Bob, Please let me know if you "cross" them over. I have 4 or 5 that need to be crossed at some point. Their grading appeared to be spot-on.

Are SCD still grading cards? Board opinion?

Posted By: Mark
B and E - I crossed over 4 SCD cards to GAI recently. Two of them received the same grade and two of them were actually bumped up. Mike Baker told me SCD tended to grade conservatively because it was the "new kid on the block." I actually considered buying SCD cards on purpose and crossing them over, since they do not sell for as much as those of the Big 3, but I am too lazy to do so.
