Antiques Roadshow - San Jose

This is an interesting picture from the recent Antiques Roadshow in San Jose - not sure what the story behind it is

The cards are obviously Obaks but what is in the lower right corner?

Neat looking display. Thanks for posting this.... And just in case some folks don't let the scrolling continue here is a pic that is just as interesting...

Please tell me that those are not tacked on to that board. :(

The dude in photo #25 looks like Fred Willard if he were forced to dress himself in the dark.

Looks like an Obak uncut sheet that Mastro sold about ten years ago. So I guess there are at least two. Maybe some of you know of others.

Cool stuff. Should make for an interesting episode.

I seriously doubt those are pasted on the board. The guy knows exactly what he has. They are from outside of the hobby, but he offered them a while ago. Great pieces, and I would love to pick some up but his asking price was well beyond aggressive.

As for the Obak group, that flower is very peculiar.

Are both sheets configured the same? Looks like 72 cards on the roadshow piece.

OBAK Sheets

Obak sheets are 76 cards, and there are more than that known...:)

caramelcard 08-25-2009 08:18 PM

Hey Mark,

What's in the corner of the obak sheet?

Stupid math......Now, are there Amrican Litho produced? I find the horizontal display/printing aspect intriguing.

the appraiser in the photo is Leila Dunbar from Sotheby's Sports Collectables Dept. here in NYC...i've spoken to her over the phone several times in the past, very helpful.

p.s. i love Antiques Roadshow, i've been watching it for years, and still record & watch every episode...great concept!

barrysloate 08-26-2009 08:16 AM

Michael- Leila left Sotheby's quite a while ago, if I am correct.

tbob 08-26-2009 03:30 PM

Maybe I am missing something but with that weird flower looking thing in the corner it doesn't look like a full uncut sheet of Obaks- either a partial sheet or singles mounted together.
