It must be "Mobster Month" over at Coach's Corner Auctions. All brought to you by Scott Malack & Lee Trythall. All "authenticated" by Chris "I Never Saw An Autograph I Didn't Like" Morales.

All three look like they were written by one person using the same pen.

For some reason, this one really cracked me up. They are advertising a 1993 set nearly entirely signed, and list out Pedro, Ripken, Nolan Ryan, etc. But look at who they include in the picture for a sampling of signed cards - 6 absolutely crappy cards....

I was thining EXACTLY that Barry. I scanned the rest of their crap. Same old fake garbage, and they get away with it.

And Chris, they have more Beatles LPS and more "rare items". This really is ridiculous and needs to be stopped.

Just pathetic.

Scott, you are right. How they continue to get away with it I'll never know. Every one of their "mobster cuts" were done by one person. And the 'authenticators" of that garbage is Chris Morales, Forensic Investigator and TTA/Ted Taylor.

If this month's focus is indeed on criminals, perhaps Scott, Lee and Chris could hand-sign a few Baseballs and Index Cards. They may not realize big bucks, but at least you know these might be authentic

A couple days ago I got a call from a gentleman in the military who bought a ton of signed items through a military auction site.

He called me to find out what his Ali signed items were worth, but said he had a ton of Mantle signed stuff also.

He tells me he has COA's for all of them, of course I ask who and I hear the names Morales, Ted Taylor and this Burczyk guy who has come up recently.

I told him to get his money back.

Saddest part. He's hinging his hopes on a Mantle signed ball he sent to PSA to have authenticated. I asked him if he sent the authentication with it and he says there was a Morales hologram sticker on it.

He said he called PSA ahead of time about the ball and mentioned Morales, and they acted like they had heard of him but didn't really know anything about him. Send in the ball with your 75 bucks and we'll check it out, they said.

Pretty sad IMO. Guy got screwed by the bad guys and the supposed good guys at the same time.

I can't blame PSA for a situation like that. Remember the sting that JSA fell for. What if the signed Mantle baseball was already authenticated by PSA and someone stuck a Morales hologram on it and then sent it to PSA to try to sting them. PSA, and rightfully so, cannot assume that it was a legitimate caller.

As someone who has no expertise in the autograph field, my immediate impression was also; same pen/signer. I mean, if a know-nothing like me can figure it out, where do they get their suckers........er, clients?

In this listing it actually gives the name of the consignor. A doctor of some sorts also states this set is becoming a classic. Perhaps in the bizarro world of the coaches corner crew this is a classic.

WOW! How convenient that the autograph hound was able to get all three of the sigs at the same time.... :D
Give me a break!!

barrysloate 06-24-2011 07:58 AM

Just out of curiosity, how would one get an ink signature cut of Clyde Barrow or Bonnie Parker? I mean, these weren't movie stars, they were bank robbers. Did they have fans who approached them for their autograph? Did they sign at baseball card shows? Even the context of these makes absolutely no sense.

Ditto. Absolutely ridiculous. From what I can observe they are all penned by one person and all "authenticated" by one person (Chris Morales, Forensic Investigator).

Chris Morales must have one helluva database of exemplars.

perezfan 06-24-2011 09:00 AM

I was really hoping for a "Machine Gun Kelly" this time around. I've always wanted the autographs of people who mercilessly gun others down.

Guess I'll have to keep waiting, or maybe just scribble one myself, and submit to Chris. Probably quicker and easier to do the latter...

Those Bonnie and Clyde, Ness, plus the other gangsters were all obtained at the COCC (Chicago Organized Crime Convention). A superticket was available of all the "stars". Obviously, that is where all the sigs origninated. Im surprised you guys didn't know of that convention!!!:p:p

I would love to see the exemplars Christopher Morales, Forensic Investigator, used to "authenticate" the signatures (including Cap Anson) on the below piece of paper.
