1939 B.M.A. Championship Baseball Series?

I picked up one of those mechanical pencil baseball bats (about 5 1/2 inches long) that used to be a popular souvenir. I thought I could go home and google a little information on this one - Wrong. Google returns zero hits. The full inscription on the barrel of the bat is:

B.M.A.
CHAMPIONSHIP
BASEBALL SERIES
JUNE, 1939

I obviously a big enough of an event to have produced these souvenirs for sale. Does anyone have a clue what B.M.A. stands for or what this series was all about?

1939 was the Baseball Centennial, and of course the first HOF induction ceremony was in June 1939. There were events staged all across the country for the Centennial, so it’s probably related to that. Most likely it’s not something that happened in Cooperstown, or else it would say Cooperstown or Hall of Fame on the bat.

Greg, your explanation is quite plausible. It still would be nice to know what B.M.A. stands for but it seems unlikely I will ever pin it down.
