Topps League Leader - Trivia
My trivia questions have been fairly well received, so I'm offering another. You wanna try Googling the answer? Good luck with that. This answer requires thinking, and maybe some looking thru your sets (which is fun, regardless of whether you come up with the answer or not...
Postwar Baseball cards (pre-1980): There have been 11 regular issue baseball cards whereby that player was also depicted on a League Leader card in the same set... with a different team. Gimme the regular issue card (player, year and team), and (of course) I'd want the team he represented on his League Leader card. Legitimately. No trick question. Go. |
Man, I can't think of any!

I know one is a 1966 Leaders card of Hank Aaron listed as an Atlanta Braves and wearing a Milwaukee Braves cap. Probably others like that as well.

Luis Aparicio 1963
SB leader with the White Sox, regular card with the Orioles
But there was no SB leader card, was there? |
1963 Pete Runnels
|
It must at least partly involve the vagaries of expansion years, yes?

Matty or Jesus Alou? Both on '69 Hitting Leaders.

Looking at one right now (I think)
Dick Stuart...65 league leader in RBI as Red Sox but he was someplace in the NL in '65. I should look it up. LOL |

Catfish Hunter on '75 Wins leaders card as A...was a Yankee that year.

1971 Tony Conigliaro, from Bosox to Angels

1978 Larry Hisle.

Am guessing this one doesn't count, but 1972 NL Pitching (Wins) leaders shows Carlton on the Cards, but he has a 1972 Topps Traded card with Phils.
|
This one is legit. 1977 Bill Campbell - Bosox on regular card and Twins on Leading Firemen.

In hunting for answers I found a guy where Topps used his same pic on Leaders card and regular card. That can be a side trivia question here.

I found one that should have been but was a mistake by Topps, Dick Donovan led the AL in ERA in 1961 for the Washington Senators but on the 1962 Topps AL ERA Leaders card he is mistakenly listed as a member of Cleveland, on his regular card he is listed with the Cleveland Indians who he was traded to after the 1961 season was over.

Your hint helped a lot. Jim Bunning also in 1968. Leaders with Phils and regular with Bucs.

BTW -- My answer is correct -- your question specified different TEAM not different FRANCHISE. Sorry but I will play semantics on trivia questions -- having been paid on several occasions to write those and hearing all the objections

Reggie maybe? Seaver?
|
Geez, this is becoming painstaking, 1971 Bob Johnson.
|
1972 Dave Roberts, although I believe the Padre pictured on the League Leader card is a photo of another Padre.
|
Missed this one because I mistakenly thought he was on one of the high numbered Traded cards, 1972 Lee May.
|
How about a 1972 Frank Robinson as an Oriole on a leader card and as a Dodger in the traded series.
