They must have just switched. I just got my card back today which was graded on Tues and it has the old style flip

Peter_Spaeth 05-24-2014 09:36 PM

I'm dreaming of a green border
Just like the flips I used to know
Where those black gaskets
Made great caskets
For cards, showcased at a show

I'm dreaming of a green border
With every submission I write
May you collect all the cards you like
And may all your flips be green and white.

bobbyw8469 05-24-2014 09:39 PM

I'm dreaming of whether I should finish my SGC set by cracking them all out and sending them all to PSA, or finishing the set with SGC and paying them to reholder my existing cards.....hmmmmmmmmmmm

Leon 05-24-2014 09:49 PM

Even though there might be a few new holders out I believe they are still considering all options for the flip. My information is from 16 minutes ago, so that is probably the most current news concerning SGC flips.

Peter_Spaeth 05-24-2014 09:55 PM

They took the green flips and put em in a flip museum
And now they charge collectors a dollar and a half just to see em
Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got till it's gone
They paid Bob Freedman who came up with an all white flip

Ugh! I'm waiting on three Old Judge cards I submitted a couple of weeks ago. I hope when I get them back they have the old style flip.

I am sure some collectors will miss the old flip. I understand that. I personally have never missed a flip. I won't miss the old one but if they go with the new one Joe G made I will sure look forward to it. I believe we will see a statement in the next few days on which way they will go. (the card itself might need a review)

As I have wirtten, this was probably a good idea by SGC which was not 100 percent thought out. That happens in any business all the time.

What SGC missed on this, was an opportunity to engage their community on a non-properitary issue which would have saved a ton of this dialogue.

Instead of creating their flip which because of the plain design looked at first grasp to have been one that a 2nd tier company could have created, there was a chance to get other collector's opinions, explain the facts of why the flip needs to be changed and create a contest.

Could you have imagined if they had created a contest in which the three/four designs were created and someone would randomly win 10 free grading vouchers. Man, the positive pub of the contest would have overwhelmed this community,

And how much deep down does 10 vouchers really cost the company (not really very much in terms of dollars), so think about this,

WE could have felt we had some say in the matter. SGC could have explained the computer program needs which is not a proprietary issue as it does not involve the actual product of grading or encapsulating cards (Which needs to be propietary) and become a win-win

There were some posters who pointed out that SGC is not ranked as high as either BGS for post-1980 cards or PSA for overall cards graded.

Look PSA got how much great pub last year for their race to 100,000 and for the card they created at last year's National. SGC should look into PR aspects such as that and that will could move them up the ladder.

That's why I offered my column as a way for theim to generate publicity because while companies make mis-steps, SGC could and should learn from this to engage their community a ton more.

Leon, the card doesn't need a review.

When the topics about the new flip design started here a few nights ago, I did an Ebay search for "1968 Topps Nolan Ryan SGC". I simply grabbed the cleanest image I could find from the results that came up. There weren't any high graded examples that were appropriate for what I was trying to do.

I took the picture previously graded card, and superimposed the new flip over the top of the old one so people could see what the new flip would look like next to a card, and on the slab. The second example I did, with the green border, just built upon the first example.

Here's the original before the new flip was superimposed:

Bill- a 4 is more like it. thanks

I have several unfinished sets in SGC holders, some almost complete. This undesirable design change affects my intent to have complete sets that totally match. Certainly any good customer relation service company would offer the option of adding either type label to any new submission for a least one year.

bbcard1 05-25-2014 09:54 AM

Was going to pay them to re-holder my Billy Sunday subset....will just do it myself.

Exhibitman 05-25-2014 10:01 AM

Kickin' it real old school, SGC style

Maybe all of the old flip cards will become collectors items.
