SGC Reholder/Relabel

The submission prices at SGC seem to be the same whether it's a newly graded card or just a request for a new holder/label, unless I am doing something wrong. Are they insisting on re-grading all their old cards? Sorry if this is a thread repeat.

I just looked it up out of curiosity. $5 reholder fee for cards under $2500 value, $25 fee if over.

I thought they also wouldn't honor the grade if graded at some point in their old holder?

I read that, but then when you go to the submission form and choose reholder, it just charges you the regular grading fee.

Sounds like it could be a glitch. A phone call to find out is probably a good idea. With psa you can fill the form out by hand and send in the appropriate fees. I would assume the same is true for sgc but I've never tried to find out.

I called, it is a glitch, no worries.

At the National, I submitted SGC graded T206s of Cy Young - portrait and Frank Chance - red portrait and a WWG Ruth - batting, which I thought were all severely undergraded, for a regrade, paying what I thought was their standard fee for this service. I left them these on Friday morning and didn't get them back until late on Saturday. There was such confusion at their tiny booth what with terminals, a rush of customers, broken stamping machine etc. My cards came back with the same grades but in new holders, so I am still unsure what I paid for. I like the new flips, but their timing for the new roll out was, well, ill-conceived.

SGC Reholder

I just Googled this question and was pointed toward this somewhat dated thread. Anyway, at the National a couple years ago, I asked SGC to reholder some old cards at the same grade and they declined, saying the cards wouldn’t pass their current standards for the grade. Not sure if that’s still their policy, but it was then. On the other hand, PSA apparently will reholder just about anything at the same grade. I guess each policy has its pluses and minuses.

SGC had different graders many years ago and their standards are different now. So they don't guarantee old grades will cross to the same grade today.

I would think if they spotted an alteration who came to know about it before the resubmission they wouldnt just rubber stamp a resubmission
