1908 Cy Young Oil Painting

Hey guys, need some knowledge here. I am working on getting a circa 1908 Oil Painting of Cy Young in a Boston Uniform that I located in an attic in Bangor Maine. The painting is unframed and not attached to a stretcher and was found rolled up. It also is unsigned so I don't know who the artist is. My question is this. Have any of you seen this painting hanging anywhere in the past or recognize it from a photo. I suspect that a painting this size must have hung somewhere prominent in the past, like a boston area bar, fenway park, an executive office???? The family cannot provide any details, but would like to know its significance before it hits the auction block.

Why do you think it is Cy Young? It doesn't look remotely like him.

But I see potential :)

I was thinking the same thing, Scott.

I could see it being a Young image...in fact I can't imagine it being anyone else. I don't know that is it a 1908 circa image, but may be a depiction of him from 1908. Some art guys...isn't this more or a 1920s-30s style?

There are plenty of large, insignificant paintings out there. Why do you think this is a prominent painting? Or that it's been somewhere prominent? It looks poorly done to me.

I think it's kinda' "folksy" in an amateurish way.

Just by looking at his catching hand Id say this painting wasnt done by a professional painter.

If it's really from circa 1908, I think it could make an interesting antique display. I could see it hanging in a bar. The display and financial value would be based on it being an antique.

I'd say it probably is Cy, but hardly fine art.
