Current 'Man table'
  • Game-used football from 2014 NFC Champ game - Seattle vs San Fran.
  • Post-game worn Steven Hauschka hat from 2015 NFC Champ game - Seattle vs Green Bay
  • 2 enlarged photo matches for football

(The second pic is for Ian - to remember that moment when things still could have turned out okay)

I bought it.

Better story: I was talking about the Dallas-Denver Super Bowl (1978) with a buddy of mine, and he told me he caught a football during the game. It turned out to be true - he was actually at the Super Bowl, sitting in the end zone, and caught an extra point. You can't one-up a story like that.

Nice pick-up. You could probably show that to anybody around where we live and double your money. Its insane how much some of that stuff is going for. I was on offerup and one guy had a mebane jersey signed and wanted $650. Whatever he's smoking I want some of that

Finally starting the new room after seemingly endless delays and setbacks. Here is a glimpse of initial progress, with Brooklyn Pennants and some game-used Jackets below.

Also came into a perfect Display Table for my Watcher's early Pinball Game. Not sure why the site randomly rotates some of the photos, and not others.

But hopefully, you can twist/tilt as necessary!

mjkm90 02-11-2016 03:10 PM

It's great to see you getting your new space together Mark. It looks fantastic my friend:D

Bumpus Jones 02-11-2016 03:55 PM

Awesome stuff Mark! Welcome back!

khkco4bls 02-11-2016 06:48 PM

Nice wachters game mark love it. maybe Leon can tell us why the pictures come in sideways is there a way on the site for it to turn them

Huysmans 02-12-2016 04:49 AM

Amazing as always Mark...
But the anal individual in me has to correct the typos you and Kevin made....
It's WAGHTERS. :-)

perezfan 02-12-2016 10:04 AM

Thank you Brent...

It's a rare day when someone "out-anals" me! My wife will be very happy about this.

I could claim it was a typo, but would be fibbing. Just never looked close enough, and its a weird name, anyway

Thanks for the correction, and hope all is well!

New Room

Mark -
Great start to your new room.
The collection of mostly Blue Dodger pennants look excellent.

Great pennants! I especially love the Newcombe. I don't think I've seen that one before.

They're getting hard to find

Tough to find, but two have shown up recently. I lost out on one, but got the other - will post pics when it arrives.

I'm not so sure, Joey. The K-6 ball recently sold for below what I think they are worth - it is not photo-matched, but was brought to a store and signed by Steven Hauschka. Mine has many photo matches (I was VERY lucky). Value is sort of irrelevant, as mine isn't for sell.

ggary 02-13-2016 11:57 AM

Mark, impressive display of some of your pennants.

Friends collection

Hi Guys:

I recently visited a friend and took photos of his collection.

It reminded me of an old Henny Youngman joke. (look him up you young guys!!) He told a story about two drunks walking along Broadway in NYC when one stumbled down the steps to a subway entrance. The other drunk kept walking and at the end of the block the first drunk came walking back up the steps. His friend asked "where did you disappear to?" The first said, I was in some guys basement, and you should see the set of trains he's got!

That's how I felt in looking at this fabulous collection. Hope you guys enjoy checking it out.

That's not a collection.
It's a hoard.

A lot of stuff in that collection. It is missing a pair of glasses though - no focus.

clydepepper 04-13-2016 01:04 PM

WOW! What an Amazin' Thread!!

I took the time to view every pick - from 2011-to-present- Incredible stuff!
.
I would never presume to show my meager collection, mostly books of which I have gotten around to reading only 10% or so.
.

- Don't think I'll live long enough to compare with a lot of your 'chapels'.

icollectDCsports 04-13-2016 03:48 PM

That collection of photos reminds me somewhat of the first time I saw photos of Barry Halper's collection, published in Smithsonian magazine in the early '80s, I think. Just a vast array of memorabilia covering every square inch of a room dedicated to display.

Thanks Joe! The lights in the display cases are dimmable LEDs. I'd say they are on for a total of about 4-6 hours a week in an otherwise completely dark room. They don't put off any heat and have low UV radiation. The lights in the shadow box displays are LED light tape strips. I installed them on the inside of the box behind the frame to give the uniforms sort of a halo effect. They look awesome when the room is dimly lit. I've been contemplating a future article for my site on how to build the shadow displays.

WOW! Amazing...Everything about it

JMEnglish27 04-14-2016 03:43 PM

Love it. I have a question though...how's he attaching the caps to the wall...specifically the ones in the photo where he's got the Eagles, Bears and Indians caps...

I kind of have the same scattershot (in a good way. There are no rules...just enjoy it) collecting style and would love to display some of my caps but can't figure out how besides tacks.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Remember a lot of stuff we collect today is still around because of people hoarding them in collections. I think those pictures are great. It doesn't have to be expensive for someone to enjoy an item.

Agreed. I love it. It reminds me a bit of my display, albeit in substantially greater quantity. It was clearly a labor of love putting that together, and I could see myself spending hours looking through it. To the extent you know, is there any underlying theme--team, state, etc.--or just a love of sports?

ksfarmboy 04-14-2016 07:43 PM

Love the mix of memorabilia and different sports. Seen at least one Orioles jersey in there I'd probably like to have. That Rittgers looking display is pretty nice too.

I'm always on the look out for good cabinets, cases and book shelves for collection display - without breaking the bank. I picked up this nice oak case, with glass doors, cheap at a garage sale. It was in great shape for the price and just needed a little touch up and some wood glue for a broken shelf.

I've moved and made a few changes to my one man cave. If non-sports makes you queasy look away although I have some early base ball stuff mixed in......Still a work in progress. Not sure how my pictures got turned sideways - or my life for that matter.

1880,

I am always curious as to what others collect and how the items are displayed. You have a very nice collection. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Bpm0014 05-17-2016 09:14 AM

I can't figure out if your pics came out sideways or if you're just displaying everything incorrectly :D

Yeah but I used the money to buy a house on the beach, so drinking while watching girls on the beach is fun

Display case

Joe & Jerry,

Really like how you have items displayed. I'm unsure why when I display memorabilia in a display case it always looks like a hoarder put the items in there, but when I view the display cases you guys have it looks awesome and organized. Thanks so much for sharing pictures of your collection as well as how you display your items.
