Did anyone read the article and find it interesting?<br />Thanks,<br />Tom<br /><br />From SGC email:<br />Here is an excerpt from an article in the upcoming issue of SGC Collector, titled "How to Spot Trimming in T206 Cards."<br /><br /> "... Each edge of a T206 has distinct characteristics. The presence or absence of certain characteristics is the best indicators in detecting card trimming.<br /><br /> On the front of a T206, the top border of the card virtually always has a slight etching, appearing to be the top of a "roll" running across the card. This is present due to how the cards were cut at the factories. Oddly enough, even though these cards were printed in many different factories, they were all printed and cut very similarly, with the exception of American Beauties. American Beauties are much more narrow than the average T206.<br /><br /> The aforementioned roll can be difficult to spot without magnification. The "roll" should be seen on one of the side edges as well as the top or bottom edge. If this roll or etching is not present on the top or bottom edge and either the left or right edge, there is an excellent chance your card has been trimmed. ..."

Posted By: <b>Sean</b><p>I also read that. <br />My guess is on the blade that cuts the cards one side is flat and one side has an angle, the side with the angle would roll that edge a bit but only on the left or right and top or bottom, because say if it cuts the top edge first the angle part of the blade makes that cut and causes the roll and for the bottom cut the flat side of the blade is making that cut so there is no roll.<br /><br />See diagram below.<br /><br />Sean<br /><br /><img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/tmp/1169230541.JPG">

Posted By: <b>Frank Wakefield</b><p>That illustration should explain that one side of the top of the card would have the roll, the other side of the card would not.<br /><br />I think the cards were all printed at the same place, not a different factories as it states in that part you quoted. My understanding is that there are several well informed collectors who share this "one printing place" view.<br /><br /><br />Frank.

With multiple printers it seems like there would be a larger number of differences between the cards even if it was as small as color differences, sizes and maybe even paper stock. <br /><br />Also if there were multiple printers you would think there would be more known about the printing process since there would be multiple sets of printing instructions/documents/plates for them. <br /><br />I don't know...Joe D. has printing connections. <img src="/images/happy.gif" height=14 width=14><br /><br />Sean BH
