question about old judge smr's

Posted By: Dave
just curious if anyone knows on the average what old judge cards have been selling for on ebay, just looked up smr prices through psa, and wondering if they are on the low side or not, a common in a PSA 5 for $325? so a PSA 2 old judge could be had for $100?

question about old judge smr's

Posted By: Gilbert Maines
vintagecarddprices.com contains an exhaustive inventory of OJs and scans and prices realized at auction.

gfg.com also has an exhaustive inventory of OJs and scans and prices for the scanned cards which are available for purchase.

The former is a searchable database with information on many sets and prices. But you have to pay to "join".

The latter is a seller of OJs and other cards.

But in general, the values which you cite are way, way low.

question about old judge smr's

Posted By: Judge Dred (Fred)
There are so many different factors in OJ valuation/pricing that may influence an advanced collector to spend more on a lesser condition card than a card that is in better condition. If you started a thread and asked collectors of OJs to list, in order, the most important factors (image quality, centering, corners, surface quality, backs) they use in determining the valuation/pricing of an OJ you'll find that the image quality will be at the top of most lists. With that said you can have an OJ in a 6 holder with lousy image quality and that same card in a 4 holder with superior image quality and the card in the 4 holder could possibly sell for more money.

There are so many more factors than that but that is a good starting point. Also, star quality can have a bit to do with it. I wont even start in on the subsets and rarity of some of the cards.

Now if you are going to use the SMR to buy OJs you may be surprised to see that the SMR is well behind the curve on OJs and what some are really worth to different collectors.

Posted By: Dave
thanks for the good info, so which poses are the ones mainly considered more desireable? I've heard the poses of players in actions shots, without a bat, catching a ball, etc.
