eBay Bucks - Do they affect your bidding habits?

I've pretty much started bidding or submitting best offers on eBay exclusively when I have an eBay bucks multiplier promotion. I figure that anytime I'm interested in purchasing a "liquid" card, it's worth waiting for a promotion that gives me an effective 4-8% discount. When I do have a 4x promotion going, I'll actively look through all the auctions ending soon.

Am I alone in this habit? Also, does eBay coordinate these promotion offers? It stands to reason that if everyone has a 4x simultaneously, one would expect prices to be bid up just a little bit higher.

glchen 05-27-2016 05:31 PM

I'm the same way. I keep a watch list of BIN/BO card that I think may just be a bit expensive, and then try to buy (or offer for) these cards when there is an 8-10% ebay promotion.

I guess i missed the boat here. How much can we earn on purchases as i have never signed up.

Similar. I have been a member for a bit now and have purchased quite a few, mind it, lower priced cards, and I haven't ever recalled seeing anything about E-Bay bucks?

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong area(s)or because my total $ spent to date is quite low, comparatively, I'm not entitled to any yet?

Mountaineer1999 05-27-2016 05:59 PM

I just looked all over the app and couldnt find how to sign up so i googled it and and was able to sign up off the link. If we get several % back per purchase I am really dissapointed with myself for not taking advatage a couple years ago.

They gouge the hell out of with Global shipping fees but yet were not entitled to E-Bay bucks.

They don't really factor in to my purchases but I guess they probably should. I did pick up a nice low grade 53 bowman Reese with ebay bucks that were about to expire once though.

stlcardinalsfan 05-27-2016 07:16 PM

Yes.... I sometimes buy something on my watch list with an ebay promotion of 8x ebay bucks or 10% off. I really haven't seen a correlation with me selling items though. Yes, everyone gets the email at the same time and many times it is on a Monday or Tuesday...

EBATES SIGN UP 1-5% off on ebay & more on over 2000 stores

Another great way to FREELY save money is to sign up for EBATES. I've done this for a couple months and it does rack up the money. EBates allows you to start at there sight (a referral service) they automatically open a link to ebay which depending on the day gives you 1-5% cash back in the sports memorabilia category. You still also get to keep your ebay bucks too.. IT IS FREE AND GIVES CASH BACK TO OVER 2000 stores. Just click the icon below to sign up
<a href='http://www.ebates.com/rf.do?referrerid=K4Bs2IC9NkgrgDo1cJXLwQ%3D%3D&eeid =28585' target='_blank' rel='nofollow'><img src='http://www.ebates.com/referral/2012/global_files/images/ebates_logo.png' alt='Ebates Coupons and Cash Back' height='31' width='171' border='0'/></a>

By the way it works perfectly if you make an offer or buy it now. If you use a sniper program (like me) you have to place an initial bid (coming from EBATES to ebay no matter if it is outbid) then days later when your snipe goes through EBATES recognizes you and gives you the cash back...Today I received 5% back. I don't know if there is a maximu but two days ago I bought an $800 item and it did credit me $40 back via EBATES

Ebates seems too good to be true. I travel a lot for work, and another person (actually a competitor) turned me on to it a couple months back. I have yet to receive a check, but am piling up a nice little stash spending on hotels and cars ahead of the quarterly check. Just figured out about eBay, and curious to see if my purchase registers. Seems to often be a several day delay between a purchase and an actual confirmation on the account. Regardless, it's free money, and really maybe only adds 5 seconds to the process.

Guessing they in turn make a nice penny selling marketing information based on people's buying habits, etc... but given my spam filter already gets stuffed, seems like a small price to pay.

stlcardinalsfan 05-27-2016 09:38 PM

Between my wife and I we have received 4 checks.... Yes it does take a little time for the eBay. Just another way to save money. I buy way too much memorabilia on eBay and my wife buys too much on Amazon!

HOF Auto Rookies 05-27-2016 09:49 PM

Yes. I try not to ever spend them so I can save up for a "high priced" item and not use any personal funds. Let's face it. I am buying on eBay no matter what, so I might as well save my eBay bucks up for something super expensive. I have earned that right [emoji6]

I am 100% the same way. Even though I'm well aware, money is money, I find myself omitting my bonus bucks from the random little $20 purchase of blank DVDs, or a pair of shoes. I want to lump it all into one AWESOME purchase. The past 2-3 have allowed me to do that... just prior, I got stuck with a big sum to spend on the last day and had to settle.

Lastly, the perfect storm is when you get a 10% bid buck deal, and you still have bid bucks to spend!!! Only happened once, and for me at least, it seems the normal bonus offers don't come immediately after the bucks coupon issued (almost like a black out period for their bonus offers)... but did have one 10% pop up in the last week or two before my coupon expired.

I did notice with my last bonus offer, it was good for only 8 hours instead of the normal 2 days. I wonder if this is how it may be going forward, as more and more people key into these offers.

clydepepper 05-27-2016 10:53 PM

I haven't seen one of their bonus offers at all this quarter. Seems like I would have had several opportunities thus far.

I did, however, get a 20% discount on fees from my last group of sales (as a top rated seller)...I have several more up for sale right now...we will see if they come up with another 20%.

Perhaps, they don't offer the seller 'rebates' to the same person who gets 'purchasing' offers.

eBay bucks flash bonus 8% Ebates only 1% today

Just wanted to let you know that I received a flash sale today via eBay for 8% eBay bucks for the next 6 hours, Too bad Ebates is only 1% today in the sports memorabilia category.

itjclarke 06-08-2016 03:09 PM

I don't like this new phenomena. I got it too, and seems we may now mostly/only be getting these "flash" deals for a few hours as opposed to the 2 day offers. The deal ends before most/any auctions close, so guessing it's mainly a way for them to boost BIN sales. When it went for 2 days, it'd often overlap with Probstein, even PWCC end times.

I know it's free money, so shouldn't complain. I just think I got spoiled by the 2 day, 10% bid buck offers.

Hot Springs Bathers 06-08-2016 03:57 PM

OK, I use my ebucks each quarter, where am I missing out on the 8 percent deals or 8x ebucks?

I always hold my bucks for a T card of some sort. If I am buying an old publication or a newer card I just pay for it, quirky but I just enjoy using them on T cards?

Me too, Mike. I guess I must be missing something also. I've only been an eBay member for 18 years

KingFisk 06-08-2016 04:39 PM

I haven't received an ebay bucks multiplier offer in about a year. I used to get them often before that. I had assumed they'd stopped. Guess not.

I've also not received a multiplier offer in quite a while. I used to get them several times per quarter. Now I feel like it has been a bait-and-switch from eBay. I get bombarded with "deals" from eBay all day, every day but can't turn the promotions off in fear of missing that 5x opportunity.

TheNightmanCometh 06-08-2016 06:31 PM

I had no idea this existed. I signed up, so I think I can say with confidence that when I do get some eBay bucks I'll be using it on BINs.

TistaT202 06-08-2016 06:35 PM

absolutely

i stockpile things on my watchlist and pounce when the multipliers are offered. I also use ebates and have saved over $450 on various online purchases, including cards on eBay.

dabigyankeeman 06-09-2016 05:25 AM

I always have cards in my wantlist that I havent pulled the trigger on because they are a little too much money for me to spend at the time, but when I get a 4X or 5X Ebay bucks offer, many times I will go ahead and buy one of these. I gotta admit, the extra Ebay bucks offer really works with me!!!

4X and 5X are monster incentives, I have gotten some 3X and thats just not quite enough to go for it usually.

I hate flash deals that are good for 6 or so hours, as I do NOT check my emails all day long, most of the time by the time I see a flash deal on Ebay bucks the time period is over and that just gets me really upset.

One thing I have noticed, the more you use their Ebay bucks special offers, the more offers you will get. Conversely, if you dont use their offers, you get less or even none. They really track you. Also at the start of a quarter, it seems I dont get an Ebay bucks offer until I have spent my old Ebay bucks. No big deal as I usually spend them the first day they are available, but once I waited over 3 weeks and I missed out on a 5X Ebay bucks deal that they didnt send to me but they sent to other people I know, I really am sure its because I hadnt spent my Ebay bucks yet.

Steve D 06-09-2016 05:44 AM

I've been an ebay member for over 16 years, and I have literally never received any offer of extra ebay bucks beyond the standard 2%; so no, the ebay bucks don't affect my bidding in any way.

You have to sign up for promotions and survey to receive the eBay bucks offers that are multipled 2x,3x,4x and percentage off...

Exhibitman 06-09-2016 10:28 AM

Back to the OP: I tend to look for something I'd not otherwise buy and BIN it with the eBay bucks. On occasion I use it to offset the purchase price of something I won anyway.
