T207 Fisher Grey Hat

Ok, color variations are probably my least favorite thing in the hobby...but even I think this one is sort of interesting.

Very neat, probably just a inking issue, but produced a markedly different cap color. If it were a T206 you would be reaping a windfall, but alas the lowly T207 brings two responses so far :(

Very cool Mac. I wonder how the cap got the grey on it. I assume most examples are white cap?

Blue Cap?

Mac,

Ain't that referred to as the Fisher "Blue cap" variation and is listed in the guides and registry? :)

Uh...the Grey cap is the middle Fisher with the blue at the right for reference (in case you weren't joking ;-).

On the middle card the grey of his cap matches the deathly grey color of his face...nice card.

Hey, Mac!

I wasn't joking (shame) - although I wasn't totally off base (but only by mistake). Upon further inspection under high watt halogen light and spectometry, that is a grey cap! My thought (if I can save some face) is that it is an ink progression into the "blue" cap. Kinda goes back to what Fromme says that the Fisher, Davis, Lewis, et al are really printing errors - although I don't agree on the Lewis (at least). We good?

Editted to add: I find it interesting that the collar and shading on the "NY" is unaffected. Wouldn't those appear to be the same color and therefore ink run?

Certainly not my least favorite part of the hobby. However, I think you need to find at least one more to catalog it. It looks "off-white" to me. Nice card.

Very cool!

The T207 set is full of surprises!

Congrats Mac!

Thanks for a positive thread!

Nice!

Well, my first reply (after Gary) went into the void, apparently ... so I'll be brief this time.

Nice catch, Mac.

I searched my T207 grouping and could only find this Simon 'color' variation. More likely it is due to toning, but thought others might want to see it as well. No matter what, the grey cap Fisher is much more impressive.

Nice Simon!!

Here's another one ... the colors in the 'C' on Graney's uniform look like the brown and grey insignia that appear on Livingston's Big and small C variations... maybe ... if you squint a little, and give it the side-eye.

Mostly interesting in that they're both Cleveland and - though I can't find the example right now - I believe someone posted here some time ago showing something identical for Olson.

In any case - my vote is that Fisher is more obvious.

Here are my other color variations. Posted my "Cheshire" Dooin previously...but still love it.

I love the color variations when they aren't just fading!

One of my favorite cards in the T207 set.

Love the details in the cards.

I have 4 Erwins, and you can see subtle differences in the cards.

Fisher gray cap?

Mac's gray cap Fisher is a little faded. He's my examples of the 3 variations. I think the gray cap is a true variation, not just a faded blue cap.

obcmac 09-06-2019 06:30 PM

Great to see another one!

This one closed yesterday...the grey cap variation seems pretty legit by this point I would think?

Fisher gray cap?

The scan looks yellowed, so it is more of a yellowed white cap. Weird!

dabbuu 03-27-2020 12:12 PM

I bought the Fisher and it came in the mail today, it is definitely grey and unlike the other versions. I think it is a valid variation.
