Tintype - baseball?

2 Attachment(s)
Can anyone provide any info as to whether this is a ball player and the approximate eraof the tintype photo? Its about 2” by 3” and the tin back has a mottled brown/black coloration. The white thing on the arm is not a chipbut appears to be an arm band. Thanks for looking.

It is hard to make out because it's small but lacking any kind of baseball item any tintype is very difficult to tell if it is baseball or something else. There is almost always some leap of faith absent any baseball equipment or part of a uniform (one which identifies it unequivocally, which is rare)...

What Leon. He could be a baseball player, but without any baseball equipment it's impossible to know. It's from circa 1870s.

The times I will say it's baseball without equipment or team name is when it's a 9 player team photo and there could be no other reasonable explanation for what it is.

There are times when one can be certain it isn't a baseball player (despite eBay seller claim).

Looks more like maybe a policeman or soldier... Boots striped pants and a tie... doesn't speak baseball to me...IMO

Probably not baseball for all the reasons already mentioned.

It looks like he's got a large belt buckle - The pics are pretty small on my screen. If it is, and if the image is focused well enough that could give a clue as a lot of uniform buckles had images related to what the uniform was for.
Not all tintypes have enough detail though.

Leatherish boots say no for me.

I’m guessing soldier type photo or an ex-soldier gunslinger. The pants and boots support the solder claim. the sleeve garter could have been used to help a gunslinger have a faster draw.

To me, including with the shoes, could possibly be a baseball player, but could be other things as well. That's why you need to equipment.

One thing to remember is that it was normal to pose with a baseball prop in a baseball tintype photo.

First thing I though was some type of competitive rider. Motorcycle of some sort or possibly horse. Just guessing by boots and the need for what looks to be some type of early crash suit? Only taking a guess.
