Is the label on this Gehrig fake?

I saw this auction and am aware of the difference between BVG and BCCG but have never seen a BCCG label with a clear B on the top left. Most BCCG labels are white all the way across the top and I've seen a few with a black B on the top left. Never seen one like this one. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1934-Goudey...19.m1438.l2649

Thoughts?

It's a new holder configuration for BCCG.

Thanks John. Holder aside, you think the seller would want to provide better pics to help sell his items.

Does a "5" rate a poor grade for BCCG?

It is the lowest grade they have, poor.

BCCG 10 Mint or Better = BGS 8.5 to 9 or Better
BCCG 9 Near Mint or Better = BGS 7 or Better
BCCG 8 Excellent or Better = BGS 5 or Better
BCCG 7 Very Good or Better = BGS 3 or Better
BCCG 6 Good or Better = BGS 2 or Better
BCCG 5 Poor or Better = BGS 1 or Better

Perhaps the bad pics are intentional? Seller has a raw Goudey Ruth but also PSA graded cards.

Seller looks to be all over the place. At least one card he calls a reprint then on this Ruth, not so much, but it is. Or if someone can show me another Red Ruth with 50/50 centering, quickly, I will be surprised. I just don't think they know what they are doing? Or it is a ploy to make it look that way (as suggested)?

My biggest question would be who in their right mind would send a 34 Gehrig into BCCG instead of PSA, SGC, or even BVG?

I agree! Based on the new label, it must've been done recently.

murphy8276 12-12-2017 04:24 PM

I think he isn't knowledgeable per-say about the cards he has. He hasn't been key word spamming at all and barely even says the year and set name in most of his listings. He probably has lost hundreds already and is expected to lose thousands by not grading and listing in a normal manner presented by a trustworthy seller. He somewhat inherited the Goudeys is my guess. Potentially a family member told him about them. He may have even had some graded and or bought some to try and finish the set and gave up.

Someone who has tried and failed to get it into a psa or sgc holder.

"Poor...or better." So who knows? Could be NM-Mt for all we know.

From my experience when it says Poor or better., expect poor.

Beckett evidently experimented with several types of new labels when they first switched to a "BVG no-sub-grades" for vintage format (pre-1980)-- I've only ever seen two other cards with this particular configuration so I'm thinking they used this style for only a day or two....everything is on the front of the flip ....

It may be a legit label and card, but I wouldn't be comfortable bidding on this card. For one, the pictures are terrible. If I'm selling a graded '34 Goudey Gehrig, even one slabbed by Beckett's mass grading service, I'm getting some better photos for my potential buyers to examine. Everybody I know has an iPhone, or an Android, and all of them take better pictures than these. The recent cancellation on the Williams ball, and some of the other questionable auctions that Leon mentioned...I'd just move on to the next listing, or wait until a better one came along.
