T-206 Cobb Red Global 8 sells for $17,000 ???

Posted By: Marc S.
Press Release

Irvine, CA March 7, 2002.

Global Authentication reports sale of T-206 Ty Cobb for $17,000. A T-206 Ty Cobb with a Red Background (Portrait variety) sold in a Global 8, at the Long Beach Coin, Card and Stamp Expo. “This once again shows the level of respect and confidence dealers and collectors have in our experience.” Said Steve Rocchi President of Global Authentication. The last reported sale, of this same card, was a December 2001 auction where it sold for approximately $14,000. “By combining our expertise with our value added services, we believe Global has the best product in the marketplace, stated Rocchi. The next Long Beach show is June 6-8 and again in September 26-28. Global Authentication is attending both remaining shows.

About Global Authentication
Global Authentication Inc. is fast becoming a leading provider of quality grading and authentication in the sports collectibles industry. The Global Authentication brand name is quickly being recognized as a highly sought after brand of high-end authenticated trading cards and memorabilia. The company shares all grading and authentication information with the customer through its Grading History Program. This information along with all of the Global Authentication programs and value added services are accessible on the company’s website, at www.gacard.net.

For further information regarding Global Authentication’s card grading services and programs, contact:

Global Authentication, Inc.
Mary Ring
mring@gacard.net
3337 Michelson Drive
Suite CN-770
Irvine, CA 92612
888-322-3053

Hmmm, the SMR on this card in PSA 8 is $15,000. On January 24, 2002, Teletrade sold a PSA 8 red back for $8,200. On November 15, 2001, Teletrade sold a PSA 8 red back for $10,000. The last bat off sold for $10,638. An SGC 88 red portrait sold for $8,500. In Oct. 2001, a bat off in PSA 8 sold for under $14k, and a red back in PSA 8 sold for under $15k. In Sept. 2000 a bat off sold for $17k in PSA 8, and a red portrait in PSA 8 sold for $15.

My conclutions: The price of this card has dropped significantly in PSA 8 over the past 2 years, and SMR is inappropriately high on this card. That this card would sell for nearly the price of the last two PSA 8 that have sold COMBINED, seems hard to swallow.

Anyone at this show, or can corraborate this? For some reason, I find it hard to believe that this is true. If so, perhaps I will resubmit all my high grade vintage PSA cards to GAI and sell for a 100% profit. LMAO!
