Most Overpriced Item on eBay

Either in dollar amount or percentage. Let's see who can find the worst offenders.

Here's my favorite: a Cobb notebook cover that's maybe worth a few hundred bucks (at best) is on sale for $11,270 -- after the seller generously discounted the item by $980.

That's too easy, Jeff, maybe you need to set parameters? So many stupid listings, like this, maybe a $2 card:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/Babe-Ruth-b...sAAOSwmo5ZnaqV

I have never understood the need to list something like this that will never sell. If it is a really cool card that someone wants to put up as an e-bay museum piece and make sure they don't sell it, okay, I guess I get that. But this one?

cardinalcollector 11-22-2017 02:11 PM

Its not vintage, but this Jose Uribe card seems a little high to me:

True -- we need some parameters: how about the card has to be marketed as if the seller actually thinks he's going to convince someone to buy it?

pokerplyr80 11-22-2017 02:23 PM

I think Leon pointed this one out the other day. The seller seems to have convinced himself it's worth his ask.

Ok How about these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/mickey-mant....c100009.m1982

Well, staying with prewar, this one is a good one:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1909-T206-C...QAAOSwjRpZRMnY

Beautiful card, but....

jefferyepayne 11-22-2017 03:18 PM

This.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1950-Bread-...IAAOxygj5Sityl

Last one sold for $1,900. Think they'd be offended with a reasonable offer?

jeff

D. Bergin 11-22-2017 03:28 PM

What about actual realized prices with finalized bids that hint at money laundering, shilling or an inexperienced seller who will sh*t their pants when they get the Ebay bill from the shilled up joke auction they put up?

I thought this went pretty high:

Love the "position" inscription on the back of the card. :D

MVSNYC 11-22-2017 04:01 PM

Here's what I'll submit...

Ah, my bad, Ed...I thought I had clicked on all the links in the thread, thus far...I missed yours (ours). ;)

You could take a zero off that price.

All of our views must have made it more valuable because now it is listed for $50,000

He also called me in my office to discuss the card, I shit you not. Of course I didn't take the call as I had no idea who he was.

Are you sure it was about the card? ;)

I felt this was priced a little strong, but it’s no longer listed, so I can only assume someone pulled the trigger on this rarity.

This is the same guy who is selling the Mantle reprint a couple posts down. "818coolguy". He's sold a total of six items, none in the past year, and the most expensive was $8.00. But now he has this amazing 2016 Ruth card.

The seller of that Cobb notebook cover is none other than our old friend, the recently banned: Toppsahollic. Last time I commented on one of his overpriced cards (a million bucks for some German Honus Wagner stamp that was missing a chunk) he PM'd me to thank me for the free pub. So there you go Jeff, he called to thank you. With your free endorsement, it's a matter of time now before he gets 40k for that notebook cover.

Oh, and my vote is for anything being sold by BMW. The guy has an eBay museum of severely over priced stuff.

Here's another of his overpriced pieces of junk: this card is worth maybe $50-75. A PSA 7 goes for the price he has on his SGC 1.

The price for the abridged version of the dictionary in the same condition has fewer zeroes.;)

The joke card is very confusing. (I mean, to begin with I didn't know Topps would make custom cards for you.) Why is... what? Why bother to shill this thing, and why would anyone legit bid on it (did anyone legit bid on it)?

Is it this one you are thinking of? I have mentioned BMW a few times in here a few times about their crazy (to me) asking prices and always wondered how they stayed in business?
But, with that being said, we know there are others out there just like them!

Anyone can ask what they want. And as long as your name is by your post you can say they are crazy. :) 800k or 1.2M is crazy to me.

Actually, the seller seems to have put that price up merely to stand out. He says down below

"Hope the price got your attention. Will consider lower offers. :)"

calvindog 11-28-2017 02:20 PM

This was 12K, then 50K, now just $3591. Problem is, I bought a pristine example for $1450 and this one for sale looks like the dog ate it.

No, but I am sure it's at least 2x as nice. I have put stupid high prices on cards before, just like that one. When someone tells me it's a super high, crazy price I am asking, I tell them I know.

Jeff, I am so surprised you would not want that Cobb notebook as a companion piece. See you in white plains.

I just ran into this one by accident and can't stop laughing. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1991-MISPRI...4383.l4275.c10

How many of us are secretly rich in misprinted cards?
