I'm usually pretty good with vintage hockey, but I am stumped on the name. The only player I am not sure of is #25 of the Bruins. It might be Terry Gray, who played perhaps one year in the early 1960's. I believe he has a card in the 1961-62 Topps set.
Pictured left to right, the card shows (for Detroit):
Terry Sawchuk
Bill Gadsby
Marcel Pronovost
And the Bruin on the right appears to be Murray Oliver, but hard to tell.

Nobody named "Ted" in that picture at all.

Thanks!

Bob,

Thanks and yes, this one is tough. I am now thinking that whoever got this signed (it came in a group of IP autos) may have just met someone and only had that card on them? No idea really. I was surprised it took this long on here for someone to give it a try but it appears this auto is still a mystery. Thanks for helping with the names on the card however!

Peace, Mike

PS Terry Gray who was a Bruin is a possibility but I can't find an exemplar to compare it to!! ugh!

#25 for the Bruins is not Terry Gray. The hairstyle and face don't match with the image on his 1961-62 and 1962-63 Topps cards, and according to hockey-reference.com, Gray wore #12 for the Bruins. He played in 42 games for Boston in 1961-62.

I also found three signed items on ebay, and the signature in the OP doesn't match the ones on ebay.

Here you go....

#25 is Wayne Rivers.

The picture has to be from the 1963-64 season, since that is the only year that each of the pictured players played for the Bruins and Red Wings.

Pronovost - 1950-65
Sawchuk - 1957-64
Gadsby - 1961-66
Oliver - 1960-67
Rivers - 1963-67

Is there anything appearing on the other side?

I'll check.....

We are away for vacation. Will re-check back of card when I get home but I remember not seeing and real clues on the back.

Thanks!

Mike

This is what Terry Gray's auto looks like.

Could of it been the top card on a dealers stack and it says "trade only"? I only need 7 to complete that set and that if it is an auto I do not recognize.

Well done Steve. I have that 64-65 Toronto Star set and didn't make the connection.

What I was trying to do was think of the name of any Bruin from that era, whose name might begin with a "T" (from the signature). The only one I could think of was Terry Gray. Hence the leap, as none of the other names in the picture come close to the signature.

In any case, bottom line is the signature does not seem to be of anyone in the picture.

Cheers...

Thank you all for your input. I love the different perspectives and clues that you all provide. I agree that it does not relate to the card for whatever reason.
Thanks again!

Thank you SO much. It is in fact Forbes Kennedy!!!!! I found a photo of a puck signed by him and it matches! Incredible! I think he may have worn #14 so don't think he is on the card unless he wore different #rs during his Bruins time?

Thanks again and I KNEW someone would crack this mystery!!!
