JD's post got me thinking it may be cool to see some baseball movie items. This obviously isn't from a movie but pretty close:)

Nothing directly baseball related, but I once had a collection of William Bendix (Babe Ruth Story) personal items, including acting awards. All I have left image wise are these photos that belonged to him. Show him with Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin and others unknown. As I recall, the guy in the bottom photo was a television-related inventor.

I love vintage original one sheet movie posters.

Though the movie I created these for didn't get past the pre-production stage, I like 'em enough to post them here. I created the scorecards, each 8 pages complete to the littlest detail with line ups and period advertising, for the entire 1944 Negro National League as well as a few other teams. Tickets as well. Since the original Negro League programs were pretty dull or simply white minor league programs with the black teams' linups posted into them, the director hired me to create period-correct graphics instead. They were fun to do and all these years later I still like to take them out every so often to look at them.

In this photo of one of my large exhibit card machines, you can see two pieces of movie memorabilia from "The Natural". On the left is a Boston flannel jersey and hat. Leaning against the bottom of the machine you can see part of a cardboard cutout of two men used to fill seats in the movie's stadium scenes (that way they didn't have to pay as many extras to sit in the stands).

Three items, kind of Giants related:

Tony Bennett's Hall of Fame Hits. Nice period picture of him at what I think is Kezar Stadium on the back. The Giants hat he is wearing is the type they sold early on, with a square SF patch.

A lunchbox from what sounds to be a pretty bad sitcom that ran for one year 1981-82. Mr. Merlin is an immortal, living in SF and posing as an auto mechanic. A kid working at the garage pulls a crowbar out of hardened cement (ala Arthur's sword) and Mr. Merlin reveals himself (no, not like that :p) and makes the kid his apprentice.

Finally, one of DeNiro's worst ever movies but one I love, nonetheless. It is basically the Barry Bonds Story. DeNiro and Snipes are way over the top and the baseball scenes are so inaccurate I've wondered if that was intentional. For those who haven't seen it, DeNiro is an obsessed stalker. When he finally meets Bobby Rayburn (Snipes), DeNiro plays dumb. Rayburn asks, "Don't you know who I am?" DeNiro hems and haws and then says, "Barry Bonds?" So bad it's good.

1962 White Sox TV Special

5 Attachment(s)
Bruce Roberts, sportscaster for local cbs affiliate in Chicago visited Sarasota, Fl in the Spring of 1962 to do a feature on a rookie Chicago White Sox pitcher, Joe Horlen. Entitled "Portrait of a Rookie', the program aired on April 6 that year.

Below are a few pics shot during the filming (originating from the camera of Don Wingfield, I believe). Bruce Roberts is shown in front of the retail store behind the camerman. The baseball scenes depict old Payne Park in Sarasota, Fl.

Bad camera phone pic, but here are a couple lobby cards I have at the bottom of my basement steps. A few years ago my wife took these to a framer and had them professionally matted and framed.

Will get some pics of a few of my baseball movie posters to post later.

Ken Hubbs Documentary On TV

"A Glimpse Of Greatness" documentary was shown on televisions in 1964. Shown here are a Colton California (Hubbs hometown) TV guide type of publication and a WGN TV Chicago newspaper stuffing from the Chicago Daily News or American. Hubbs died in a plane crash after the 1963 season. The DVD is available currently for under 15 bucks mail order. It was and is promoted by Hubbs high school classmate and baseball/football teammate Ron Doty. All proceeds go to their charitable organization in Colton.

I really don't have anything too valuable like most of you guys...but I started a Chicago project a while back and sent A&G Chicago cards to a lot of former Cubs players and actors from movies set in Chicago/Wrigley.
