National Thread Update

I hope I speak for many of the board members here who won't be attending the National when I say...."Please post pics of what you are seeing at the National this year." I had intentions of attending and now have to cancel my room for another obligation. Post away when you get there.....for the ones here who wish we were there! :o

eastonfalcon19 07-09-2017 08:39 PM

Yes I actually look forward to seeing pics of the national. I was going to go but I will be in Cooperstown for the Hall of Fame inductions

Fballguy 07-10-2017 10:51 AM

I can't make it this year either and thought I'd throw this out there. I'm looking for a couple of Rams pennants, pictured below. If anyone happens to spot one and can make note of the vendor and price, I'd gladly pay a $50 finders fee if I'm able to acquire. Actually, any Cleveland Rams pennant would interest me as I only own one.

Hope to see a lot of pics of pennants in this thread.

Thanks!

Would love to see any Vintage Minneapolis Millers or St. Paul Saints items! Always looking to buy to enhance my collection. Maybe the 1951 Willie Mays Millers jersey will be there?

lrspaulp 07-10-2017 07:23 PM

I will be in Cooperstown as well. Who was the brain surgeon who scheduled The National the same weekend as HOF Induction Weekend? Not a smart move.

prestigecollectibles 07-10-2017 08:49 PM

I believe the National was scheduled before the HOF weekends dates were announced.

Looking forward to all the memorabilia pics

One thing I will say is...

Ebay BIN's seem like museum prices, until you see the national lol

I bought a few sports cartoon original drawings from Keith at the National. He's a terrific guy with a LOT of very cool items.

I concur about dealer/ board member Keith Javic.
Terrific guy & great booth! Keith is very friendly and has been a great resource in the past.

On Thursday afternoon I spent some time with him and his dad.
My favorite 2017 National pick came from his booth. I purchased an early vintage Spalding scorebook that once was the property of a Canadian couple that apparently scored every baseball game that they attended from 1913-1925. The scorebook contained a great sampling of Canadian International League games as well as 18 Detroit Tigers games (Ty Cobb era) from the time period of 1919-1923.

What really caught my eye was that the couple was fortunate enough to have been on hand on 4/30/22 when CWS hurler Charlie Robertson tossed a perfect game against the Ty Cobb led Tigers at Navin Field. This was the first time in baseball history that the phrase "Perfect Game" was used to describe a game where previously it was described as a "no-hit, no run game where nobody reached first base", which to me is historically significant for my no-hit collection.

Many thanks to Keith and his dad for picking this great addition to my collection at the Brimfield show. I'm proud to own it... ;)

Nice pickup Scott. Between this and the mention of his perfect game ball in another thread, I bet it's the most ol' Charlie has been mentioned anywhere in a long time. LOL

Stunning from a historical perspective and very poignant from a human perspective. It's great that something that obviously meant so much to this couple lives on and is appropriately appreciated.
