just picked up the Spalding double seam baseball off eBay. its in great shape.I only know of Spalding and Draper and Maynard making double seam baseballs. I can make out ball on the ball but it seems to be like more of generic printing. looking for the ad from 1891 92 when the balll first appeared in Spalding catalogs can anybody help me with a picture from a Spalding catalog. Thx.

I know nothing about these, but that is an awesome-looking ball.

Hey Kevin, hope you are well. Cool ball. I checked the catalogs I have on my site and I first see the Double Seam ball listed in 1894 but it is a listing only with no picture. I pulled this pic from the 1896 Spalding catalog (top left). Hope it helps.

From Bushing and Phillips "Vintage Base Balls" guide, no doubt similarly scanned from a catalog. Not the earliest example obviously, but a good clear image/illustration.

See how the wording changed From more generic to script.. I think mine might be an earlier version.

I've never seen one of these before except in a catalogue - what were they meant for and who used them? Does the double seam make them more durable?

they made them that way for extra durability also the Balls were guaranteed. a little pricey for the time. They were 150 a piece
