Think this card is trimmed?

I rarely handle cards this nice, so I'd appreciate some opinions. The edges all look good but it seems too good to true.

So you are looking for our Overall opinion?

The top looks like it is more specifically towards the top right hand corner. And as you know no expert on trimmed cards but I say yes.

Nice card though Nice color especially the vibrant red on the overprint.

you could say that :D

Just eyeballing it on my screen, without doing any measurements (or seeing it in person, of course), it looks short top to bottom. I want the bottom border to be wider/thicker, given the width of the top border.

almost certain, but beautiful card though

Is it just diamond cut?

rgpete 08-03-2015 04:14 PM

Can't tell from scan, Research on google and past threads for trimmed cards

I agree.

I think this is a nice VGEX+-EX card.

ullmandds 08-03-2015 04:21 PM

card does not look diamond cut to me...atleast not on left side? top has slight diamond cut...very slight.

left side looks wavy...top rt corner sharper than others.

i'm not a grading maven...dunno on this one.

Top right wear is consistent, area of interest is bottom left (if the card is trimmed), that is the least worn corner. Impossible to tell without card in hand.

To me the left edge looks questionable on the reverse scan, but I've seen many with this exact look, so maybe it was the result of the blade not hitting sharply as it got dull - we've speculated in the past that such a situation caused the diamond cut, and this card displays a slight diamond cut.

Not sure if this will help, but just in case...

Bocabirdman 08-03-2015 05:05 PM

Luke...silly question....Have you measured it?

mark evans 08-03-2015 05:23 PM

I don't know squat about trimmed cards, but why would anyone trim this card to its current condition? You'd think that if someone trimmed a card it would look like a PSA 8 (a la Gretzky Wagner).

I have to admit I've never measured a T206. There seems to be so much variation that I'm not sure how much value an exact measurement has. Is that the wrong way to look at it?

I did compare it to other raw cards and it was very similar to my other raw cards, and matched up perfectly with quite a few that I don't have concerns about.

Check out Jeffs trimmed cards for sale. He's done pretty well selling them so hopefully he won't mind me using it as an example.

Some HOF players but others:

Griffith -
Downey -
Mullen -
Camnitz - $SOLD
Reulbach - $SOLD
Mordecai Brown Cubs jersey- $SOLD
Tinker bat on - $TRADED

So the point is why trim a Downey, Mullen, Camnitz, or Reulbach ???

Do you have it in hand? If you do here's what to look for.

From the front - All the edges should be slightly rounded towards the back.
On the back - All the edges should have a slight ridge sticking up.

If it's like that with no inconsistencies then it's probably not trimmed.

If any of the edges are sharp and crisp, like a late 80's early 90's card then it's probably trimmed.

Bottom edge

Bottom edge looks ever so slightly uneven (very hard to see). The corners look a little funky almost as if it was very slightly trimmed. Check the bottom border for straightness. Maybe it is just my eyes and my age! :)

Peace, Mike

I'll be the dissenter then. It looks good to me.

Another silly question:

Can a trimmed card still meet the commonly accepted/published card dimensions of 1-7/16" by 2-5/8 as specified on the PSA website)? Remember the PSA 5 "Jumbo" Honus Wagner T206? That card could be trimmed and still meet the specs.

Measuring a card and finding it the correct size does not eliminate the possibility of a trim (think oversized cards). However, if it is short, it is short.:D:)
