Pretty sure based on source of cards. Why do you ask?

autograf 01-11-2017 06:53 AM

As they said in Seinfeld.........."they're real and they're spectacular!"

Because it's such a rare find, rare condition, and has some heavy hitters in there. Also, its just a standard reaction when looking at them and drooling.

h2oya311 01-11-2017 08:37 AM

That's one heck of a find! Congrats!

JustinD 01-11-2017 09:39 AM

Whoa, nice find!

That mascot card is awesome.

Could you post them all? I would love to see the rest, especially some of those heavy hitters.

Jeffrompa 01-11-2017 10:57 AM

Amazing!

REA is the right place to sell . Can't wait to see them all there .

paul 01-11-2017 03:17 PM

I can't believe a Dogs Head mascot card even exists. Outstanding.

Jason 01-11-2017 03:54 PM

I really like the Mascot Cabinet and that Billy Nash is pretty amazing too. Great pickups the Spring REA auction should be a great one.

Ok, so I'll place the over/under on 10 PMs, Since posting to the home page. Great find and the Mascot Cabinet would be my favorite one to chase!!

Tyler 01-11-2017 08:30 PM

Willie Breslin!
Awesome find, would love to see the others.

Joe_G. 01-11-2017 08:55 PM

Very nice find with some clues that this might be an original collection from 1889 (player/team combos and Dogs Head mounts date many to 1889). The collector seems to have liked Boston & Chicago with a weak spot for the NY mascot and a couple St. Louis players.

Best of luck with them and thanks for the early preview!

JeremyW 01-13-2017 06:14 PM

This might be the best find that I've seen on this forum in the last five years. I would love to hear some more details & see some more scans. I'm surprised this post hasn't caused more of a commotion.

I am sure it has caused quite a commotion in his PM box.:)

That mascot card is AWESOME!!!

JeremyW 01-13-2017 06:37 PM

Correct. When the OP said "probably" going to REA, he/she left the door open.

I went with REA, and dealing with Brian has been great. Thanks for all the PMs and offers, I decided that putting them up this way would be best for all. The cards are in the current Spring auction.

Pre fee do you mean without the Buyer's Premium?

If so I would make the O/U $70,001

That sounds pretty good. I did a quick back o' the envelope calculations and figured $67k.

Of course I'm hoping for more - - https://www.forbes.com/sites/davidse.../#5b61f4125c0c

Time will tell, less than 40 hours to go...

Joe_G. 04-29-2017 07:30 AM

Nice article, lots of good information, a few errors.

The correct size for these cabinet cards would be 4 1/4" x 6 1/2".

Old Judge cabinets date to 1888 & 1889 (not 1887-88), this collection appearing to be nearly all, if not all, from 1889.

These photos were not taken in Brooklyn, many would be from Gray Studio in Boston, others scattered about (many different studios are responsible for the original pictures).

One omission to the article is the rarity and desirability of the Dogs Head mounts.

Great looking cabinets, wish there were a few Detroit examples as I'd join the mix.

thanks for adding your knowledge!
