What is this card

Posted By: Rhys Yeakley
I have looked around a bit and cant identify this item. It is glossy stock, machine cut, completely vintage, and was found stuck to a scrapbook page with some Goudey Premiums. It is too long and narrow to be a Charles Denby (plus no advertising on the back) but is similar in composition and thickness. Anyone know what it is?

Rhys

Posted By: Rhys Yeakley
The card I have is too large I think to be a Schapira, mine is 3.25 inches by about 5.4. The seller had one other from the set as well but I didn't get that one. I will try and figue out who it was. Plus I think this one was issued around 1933 or so.

Posted By: Rhys Yeakley
I have not bought the 2007 book yet so I cant look up the set Frank mentions and since it is not in the 2006 book, that might be why I cant find it. Does anyone have a scan of what a R314-3 looks like to compare to? Here is the other one that I was not able to pick up, it is Moose Solters and is similar in all other regards to the Dykes I have.

Posted By: fkw
Here is 3 I have.

The only reason Im not more certain the Dykes is a R314B-1 is the caption is white (I have yet to see a white caption in the short time Ive collected them), and the 2007 SCD says "kneeling" next to the Jimmy Dykes in the checklist (24 in the set).

my cards are all exactly 3-1/4" by 5-7/16"
notice the bottom of my Whitehill and Trosky (and left side of Fox) have the same sliver from another photo as your Dykes does (slightly miscut).

Posted By: fkw
Thats what they are, R314B-1. Solters is in the set too.

There is a good article on them in the Old Cardboard #7 issue (page 36) by Tim Newcomb.

Tim helped me out earlier this year when I didnt know what these were. I bought the Whitehill and also had no clue what it was. They are also known as Goudey Borderless Wide Pens. Im my looking for them for close to a year, I have found they are fairly scarce.
