Thanks to Ted Zanidakis and Net54!!

I wanted to write a note of thanks to Ted Zanidakis and all of the Net54 community for their kindness and generosity. I have been a member here for a little more than a year. I don’t post very much, for I know much less than so many of the members here, but I read Net54 nearly every day, and I am so grateful to the members of this community for providing such a wonderful place to learn and escape. I have learned so much about Old Judge cards, pre-war caramel cards, T205s, T207s, and, especially, T206s. My childhood love of collecting has been rekindled.

Last week, I was reading Ted Zanidakis’ T206 post, and he had posted a trivia question – with the first correct answer receiving a T206 card in return. I had just read Cait Murphy’s Crazy ’08 book, and there was a passage about the question Ted had posed. Long story short, when I went to my mailbox this afternoon, there was a lovely T206 card awaiting me, provided as a gift from Ted. I can’t begin to thank Ted enough for the generosity and kindness of his gift – it evoked a feeling of joyous wonder that I felt collecting as a child – but it also felt emblematic of the kindness of this community. I thank all of you for helping to create such a wonderful place for learning and sharing.

The card the Ted sent (Hunter – Brooklyn) is my first T206 card. I have been looking at the set for much of the last year and trying to learn as much as I can about it. This feels like the perfect kick-off to starting a collection of T206s. I am not yet sure how to proceed – maybe a team set, maybe a selection of different backs, maybe simply choosing those cards with the images that feel more compelling – but of course this is part of the joy of collecting.

My deepest thanks to Ted for his kind gift, and my thanks to all of you for creating this wonderful corner of the internet. Thank you.

Bill

Bill,

Let me extend to you a belated welcome to Net54. Don't be afraid to post more often.

I've met Ted a few times at the Philly Show. He's a tremendously nice person and definitely one of the good guys in the hobby.

Best regards,

Eric

Although I don’t know him, Ted Z seems like a great guy. His knowledge of T206s is without equal. And he is always so eager to share this knowledge. An asset here for sure!

Great post. Ted is a very great guy and a huge asset to the card-collecting community, especially us T206 geeks

Ted is the Oracle of Delphi here at net54, not everyday you get a Zanadakis T206, great start to 520.

Hi Bill
I really appreciate the your kind words posted in Post #1. Thanks very much.

Now, here is my suggestion.....since you chose Hunter from the selection of cards I offered you, I am
assuming you may be a Brooklyn Dodger fan. The only tough guy in this group of 26 cards is Dahlen.
Give this idea some consideration. It is a good start, because I can tell you that you won't stop there.

This why I still collect and love the hobby.

Brooklyn team set

Thanks for the idea, Ted - the Brooklyn team sure is an interesting subset to consider. There is a short print (Dahlen), a horizontal card (Pattee), a Hall of Famer (Wheat), and even a player with striped sleeves (McIntyre). It seems like it could be a really nice starter project to learn more about the T206s. A very interesting idea…

Love reading Ted's posts as he's such a wealth of knowledge and experience in the hobby.

Bill, let me throw my hat in and suggest a back run, he has some good ones: Drum, BL 350, AB 350, Cycle 350. You get hooked on t206s and you are a goner (in a good way)!

Great reading! - just one reason why I still enjoy the hobby.

Back run for Hunter...

Thanks for the idea of a back run, Ryan - I like the idea of a challenge like that. One of the posts that first captured my imagination with T206s was Ted's "A-B-C-D" post about that subset of players who had American Beauty, Broad Leaf, Cycle, and Drum backs, and I like that Hunter is one of those cards. Quite tempting...

Hi Bill

My "A - B - C - D" connection can be a fun T206 sub-set regarding Hunter. But, I can assure you that...."It Don't Come Easy" (Ringo Starr, 1971).
Especially, if you include the 1910 COUPON to complete this pattern. Hunter is one of 48 - Major Leaguers which were printed with this rare back.

Hunter pop report data (PSA + SGC)........

AMERICAN BEAUTY = 10
BROAD LEAF = 5
CYCLE = 11
DRUM = 1
and,
COUPON = 3

Hey good buddy, I really appreciate your kind words.

And indeed, we have had some great conversations and some great trades over the years, especially at the National Shows. Did you get to the National a couple of weeks ago ?

I couldn't make it this year. And, I'm already looking forward to next Summer in Atlantic City. It is only a 2 hour drive for me from Pennsylvania.

ted,

Good to hear that you're going to be at the national next summer! I'm hoping to see you again at the Philly Show, God Willing, in September.

I don't have anything to add except that I got a T206 card from Ted in circumstances identical to those in post #1. It was quite a while ago, but I'm still grateful.
