Cancelled/redeemed 1912 Zeenuts & 1912 HRKs
 

I 'm curious if anyone else has any cancelled or redeemed 1912 Zeenuts or 1912 Home Run Kisses?

I'm lucky to now have an example from each set.

Does anyone have a punch different from the "heart shaped" punch?


I would like to see some other examples.

Punches: heart shaped or design of the Sepia Logo?
 

After further thought....maybe the punch isn't a heart but actually a punch out of the shape of the Bardell Sepia Logo on the back of these 2 sets.

Any thoughts?

I haven't seen any literature showing the premiums or prizes yet. I'm sure there must be a coupon or newspaper article that gives the details. Maybe one of the PCL experts can add to the discussion.

You would think there would be some floating around with the amount of Zeenuts that have survived. I'm familiar with the Obak and Fatima premiuims but have never seen a Zeenut or HRK. Unless you redeemed the baseball players for a non-sports/baseball related premium. Intersting that the card backs note how "valuable" the premiums are.

In the interlude before an authoritative response from Mark Macrae, my recollection is that the zeenut premiums were not bigger cards (like the obaks) but such valuable items as baseball,gloves or toys.

Not exactly on your topic, but I have to say WOW! those are beautiful cards! The brown background makes them pop, I don't think I've ever seen many in the same place like that post. In that context they sure are sharp looking!

I don't have any redeemed 1912s, but I can help a bit with the redemption items.

Below is a page from the Horne book, detailing the valuable items that could be redeemed in 1938 for the accompanying number of coupons.

Mark is the authority on all things Zeenut, and he may want to elaborate on this issue more. We call all cards 1911-1938 Zeenuts, even though "Zee-nut" obviously is not on the cards from 1931-1938. It is assumed that "Zee-nuts" (a candied popcorn similar to cracker jacks) were discontinued about 1931, and instead "Ruf-nek" (a sticky chocolate marshmallow paddy) is the product that had to be purchased 1931-38 in order to acquire a 1931-38 card (of course with valuable coupon still intact). Hence the reference to "Ruf-nek" in the 1938 ad below.

I've had a lot of "punched" zeenuts, but never put it together that the punch was in the shape of the "bardell sepia" design. Definitely agree. Very cool.

1912 Redeemed Zeenuts (revisited)
 

Curious if anyone has seen this type of punch mark seen on this 1912 Harry Cheek or other 1912 zeenuts? It's different from the common "heart shaped" or Sepia Bardell logo punch.

1912 Win Noyes
 

Ive had two or three 1912 Noyes cards and this one has your punch

Here are the three different punches I have, including one that has the 'arrow' punch. I don't remember seeing any other like the four hole punch card (possibly home made, but then again the upper right punch has similar positioning as the other punched cards), nor any other hole types either.

However, for a small fee you can send me 1912 Zeenut cards and I can utilize my granddaughter's hole puncher, and your cards can have a variety of other fun punches from stars to hands and even cows, if so desired.
